This thread is for those looking for employment, whether they're currently unemployed or just seeking a new job.

How's the job search going?
>professor networks me into meeting contact
>go for coffee. End up doing a walk through of the entire office, meeting a bunch of people
>month goes by
>finally hear from HR, she wants a phone more "formal" interview
>went okay. She said she's going to schedule me to come in an talk to "people I'll be working with"
This interview was Monday. She still hasn't gotten back to me. I know I'm being impatient, but I'm fucking unemployed and I need a job.

Anyway, based on the info given am I going to get an offer, or will I be trashed?

You're doing good so far. I was a recruiter for five years.

Only been in the working world for a little over 7 months now. Before that I had 3 internships during college. Already pulling my hair out with this current position though. the pay is good but the location sucks major dicks (middle of long island), the work is meaningless, and the work is only a distant 4th cousin of what I actually want to do (work with media or advertising agencies). ive applied to about 30 positions in the last two months but no responses yet, but they've all been in the city directly since thats where I intend to move.

Is it self-explanatory that I plan on moving closer when I apply to places that'd have an hour and a half commute? or should I mention that I plan on moving? Or do most people who work in nyc commute 90 mins both ways anyway?

am I better off: 1. quitting my job and finding an apartment in the city first, or 2. sticking with my job but being an hour away? or should I just make up an address on my resume? would that bite me in the ass? do employers care one way or another?

Is it okay to slightly alter my experiences and job titles? for example with development jobs ive been putting my latest title of "curriculum development specialist associate" as just "development specialist". because the former sounds fucking retarded, and in the latter im just omitting a few words.

Side note. When I was in high school I applied for a summer job at Hot Topic (that was 16 years ago) had the interview, went great... didnt hear from them. Totally forgot I about them 4 months later I got a call from them asking if I was still interested and that they had an immediate opening.

From interview to my first day was like 18 weeks

My commute into Chicago every morning is an hour and 15 minute drive, followed by 45 minutes on the train, capped off by a 5 block walk.

Going home is a lot longer as traffic really sucks.

So yea, an hour and a half drive is almost nothing. There was an article a few months ago about a guy who lives in Scotland and makes the 6 hour drive to and from London everyday.

How long should I wait after not hearing from HR until I contact her again?
>>
How the fuck do you network?

I dunno, but that shit pisses me off. I applied for an immediate job opening last week, sent in my resume, got a call back the next day for an interview for the day after that, which was a Friday. Said they'd get back to me either way. It's almost been a fucking week and I haven't heard anything, is this normal? Especially for an immediate opening?

Jesus, what suburb are you from?

To spend 4-5 hours to commute on top of a normal work day seems ridiculous. Do you do anything else during your work days?

I live in Dixon IL, and aside from eating and sleeping, no I dont. I basically wake up, shower, eat, go to work, come home, eat, respond to a few emails with the TV as background noise, and usually fall asleep half way through my second beer

NEET here. Been applying to various jobs. Cant seem to get any interviews despite having experience (albeit shitty) and a degree. Been applying to places that "take anybody" and places with high turnover too. General labor, retail, restaurants, sales, etc.
