Alright, /biz/, wanting to get into stocks and play around a bit. I know nothing about it so could you guys tell me what I need to know? How they are taxed, where to start, can I do it easily on my computer and phone? Any info helps!

If you're an amateur with little capital, you're bound to lose your money. Buy into Vanguard or any wide spread market ETF.
They're taxed accordingly depending on where you live, capital gains tax.
Yes, you can easily do it from home, some brokers have apps for mobile devices as well.
Generally, read the Intelligent Investor by Benjamin Graham, the fourth edition edited by Jason Zweig. Also, Business Adventures and maybe Bogle's Small Book on Investing.
Generally, spend time preparing and educating yourself, on investopedia, bogleheads etc.
On marketwatch, there's a real time stock game with fictional money. Practice, but don't think you'll win the game if you get lucky for a month. Never get cocky, never speculate, never think you know the market or that you can play it, because it will play you.
To quote Graham, the intelligent investor is a realist who sells to optimists and buys from pessimists.

This poster is almost certainly correct.
Trading requires tens of thousands to be done effectively and with any prayer of success.

But I'm sure someone will be along shortly to recommend a surely disappointing experience via Robin Hood.
