Anybody wanna discuss the book 'The Richest Man In Babylon'?

I just read it for the second time.
It's the first finance book I ever read.

Also, I'm 21 and just started my first job, so I'm trying to learn how to manage my money.

I'd like to hear opinions on this book from people with more experience in financing.

And perhaps suggestions on what books I should read next?

It's a great little book. I hope you didn't buy into the Amazon review hype of "the greatest finance book ever written". It's certainly not and the book doesn't try to be like that.

It's a tidy little resource for the lessons of personal finance, written in a novel format. It's for people with a basic sense of reading comprehension.

I'm not going to recommend you any books, but with any kind of /biz/ reading material make sure to jot down some notes. Keep a notebook that summarizes the concepts and principles from the books you read. Don't be the fucking retard who reads these books, thinking that he'll "absorb", let alone memorize, the lessons from them.

Remember: taking notes and studying them is what keeps you from wasting your time. But all of that is near useless without ACTION. You must apply these principles to your daily life, your work, your business, etc. or else your just guilty of mental masturbation.

I read it about 15 years ago. I'm not a millionaire yet, but I'm still trying.

Thanks

I'm actually taking notes.

This book gave me a good global idea on how personal financing can work.
I'm just wondering if there are better ways to do it.

Also, in the book they tell you to invest your savings. They give some examples and tips, but I still have no idea how to invest.

Where can I turn to learn more about investing?

How are you doing? Did you save alot, are you investing it?

How much did the book help you?

>2015 minus 2750
>Give all your money to Phoenician gem traders
>Not giving it to bronze shield/spear makers

Stay pleb

Lmao

The examples they give are pretty useless for todays world.
Aside from the lessons they teach you like not to trust your money with incapable people..

Of course the examples are irrelevant--they take place in ancient Babylon!

It's up to you to, with your own intelligence and awareness of current trends, to draw an analogue between the novel and real life.

Good God, man..

I felt it was pretty fluffy. I guess it might help get you thinking if you've never been exposed to entrepreneurial attitudes before, but it struck me as a bunch of syrupy parables with about as much useful information as slogans like "work smarter, not harder".

I was disappointed because someone recommended it to me as kind of a revelation. I think at some point you have to stop reading feelgood advice books and start arming yourself with pragmatic knowledge (which is much harder to find and apply).

Best get rich quick advice evar: write a book about getting rich quick.

Invest in ETFs. Period. Its the only way your money will be diversified enough to consistently beat out inflation.
