How do I into job shadowing.
I am a college freshman, who is doing nothing for summer. To keep it from becoming a complete waste I want to shadow a professional. I am studying geology, so I want to shadow someone who works in that field.
Does your college have a job board?
Most relevant ones do.

You should have been planning this stuff in the winter. Stuff for the summer at my uni starts getting posted in January.
But if you want to shadow a geologist, go talk to a geologist. It's not rocket science. You have geology profs at your school, go to one of them and say
>I'm a geology student and I'd like to get some experience in the field this summer.
Odds are at least one will either help you or refer you to someone who can, although you may be fucked this late in the year.

I was trying to get an internship(super late in the year), and I am freshman so nobody wants some babby freshman intern. Now I realize I should have tried to find somewhere to do shadowing, because it would be fine for a no-skills freshman to just stand awkwardly and try to learn something.
Has anyone here ever job shadowed? What is it like?
I wasn't expecting to actually do anything in summer, but why not try and find something.
Isn't it more common to get internships in sophome-junior summer.

It's not rocket science it's rock science
bump, I thought this thread would get more attention since it is highly relevant to building a career.
