The last time it was this high was in the first world war. Millennials enter college but less than 20% graduate. Alright OP, I will bite. I went to college on a full ride. I graduated at 22 and immediately started working in my field. During the year I earned $70,000. This does not include the 401k matching and extremely generous healthcare package. I never once worked a day in the service industry or manual labor. I have a comfortable 40 hr/wk job that I live a few miles away from. You'll probably ask for a pay stub, which I will be unable to provide as I have direct deposit, and I cannot currently access any pay statements as they aren't available remotely. The thing is, my case isn't a rarity. My story is fairly common when it comes to engineering graduates, it's not like anyone gets paid any less than I do, unless they're civil or something. The giant firm I work for gobbles up engineering graduates as quick as they can get their hands on them and they're one of hundreds in the United States alone. College recruitment programs in HR departments the country over wind their tendrils into every university career center under the sun. If you have an ounce of passion or talent they will take you, as long as you can stifle your autism for even a moment, but that's not really possible for you OP, is it?

Technically if your financial aid exceeds the immediate costs charged by the university the surplus is deposited directly to you, which is getting paid to go to school. However, just being in the major and doing the coursework gets you access to summer internships which pay very well.
The last internship I worked at paid me $22/hr (as a stupid intern that didn't know shit).
And of course this is all anecdotal but I personally know tons of tradesmen and technicians who go and get degrees anyway because they're getting older and want to mature in their careers (often times the employer covers the tuition as well).
