We eventually came to blame it on the fact that another regular customer who often gets attacked by birds outside the salon had just walked in the building.

TL;DR a ruler lifted up from behind a stack of books and flew forwards about 2 feet off the counter and onto the floor while I was getting my hair cut in the middle of the afternoon.
