Just keep at it. Watching tutorials is good too. But dont forget to just learn to ride too, you cant do ollies if you keep falling off your board.

If you are stable on the board I could give you a handful of tips, but your youtube tutorials would do better so you can watch whats going on.

I can recommend learning some tricks that dont require ollie, though, both for learning balance and board controll and to mix it up while practicing ollies

YOU have to do all the work. The board doesn't magically push you higher. It's all about lifting your legs as high as you can. Mind you, you have to start off low. I learned the ollie and kicklip in 1 day just by determination. I spend 12+ hours on a board that day learning only 2 tricks. Ollie on flat, then ollie over a brick, then over 2 bricks. Same with the kickflip.

Main thing is, keep your shoulders above the bolts and keep your back straight.

I've got a longboard, 22inch penny and a skateboard. I've really learned how to balance at high speeds with the penny and also a bit manual. Skate when I was younger and started again at 18, now 21. Most of my friends cruise and I haven't really wanted to go alone to practice tricks but now a buddy recently got one so I'm gonna start riding with him and teach myself some shit.

I love just cruising around on my penny tho, not trick wise, but just cruising downhill downtown.

Really the only way to tell is to grab one off a shop wall, put it on the ground and stand on it. If it feels good as far as room for your feet, go with it. I just go with 8.5 because it's more surface area to catch flip tricks and more stable when going fast

i wouldnt recommend getting too much of a junker. a used board is fine. just make sure its still got some pop. as in not a completely flat board with no curved ends.
also, when looking at the deck, make sure there are no cracks where the screws go through. these pressure cracks can easily snap the board. grip tape should still scratch you and not be too smooth.
