I have an extra blanket for the nuclear winter it will cause

When it erupts it'll take out half the country. The fire and heat, ash, lava, etc. would finish the other half. Then the smoke would create a nuclear winter to which all plants would die and then all animals. No matter what you do, you are fucked

The US is the wealthiest country on the planet. Importing extra food for a couple years to compensate for the downturn in domestic agricultural production wouldn't be too difficult. Prices would go up for a while, but we'd be fine in the long run. Simple foods like wheat and soy are cheap and easy to import.

Mass feaths of insects leads to mass death all the way up the food chain. The entire earth would reel from an event of this magnitude. You think the rest of the world would just keep churning out food, willy nilly?

>Each time, the whole planet would have felt the effects. Gases rising high into the stratosphere would have mixed with water vapor to create a thin haze of sulfate aerosols that dimmed sunlight, potentially plunging the Earth into years of "volcanic winter." According to some researchers, the DNA of our own species may pay witness to such a catastrophe around 74,000 years ago, when a supervolcano called Toba erupted in Indonesia. The ensuing volcanic winter may have contributed to a period of global cooling that reduced the entire human population to a few thousand individuals—a close shave for the human race.

>>
>>695145906
The last time the Yellowstone Caldera erupted was 70,000 years ago. Humans were around at that time and the geological record doesn't indicate any mass extinction around that time period, so your assessment of its impact is obviously exaggerated.

>>
>>695146681
Not really. I mean if you want to get sci-fi about it then we could talk about the feasibility of building giant nets to capture all the ash and ejecta, but realistically I don't think there's really anything we could do to stop the physical damage.

A global temperature drop would be highly likely if we look back at other volcanoes we have on record. One well known event: Krakatoa 1883 VEI (Volcanic Explosivity Index) - reduced worldwide temperatures by an average of 1.2°C for 5 years.

The last VEI 8 (Super-volcanic) event to occur was the Oruanui eruption 26,500 years ago.
>>
>>695147990
Krakatoa 1883 VEI 6. *
>>
>>695147539
>Implying non-human wildlife wouldn't also be effected by anything that effects human agriculture
Any event that causes enough damage to the Earth's environment to seriously hinder human agricultural activity will inevitably cause mass extinctions among natural wildlife. The geological record shows that nothing of the sort occurred the last time Yellowstone erupted. This isn't rocket science.
>>
>>695147472
I argue that the ancient native who would hunt, kill, butcher, and eat his own food nightly all while survivng with the barest of technology to sustain him (fire, a sharp rock) would have a far easier time survivng a cataclysm than this most recent generation, who are faily getting hit by cars staring at their phones because they can't walk and chew gum at the same time.

The only thing humans have directly in their favor now is a global infrastructure that disseminates information damn near instantly.

So on that front, we agree. Survivable, but bad. Really, really bad.

Maybe if you moved enough rock away from the area around the Caldera to reduce the weight of the tectonic plate on that region, but that would require moving massive amounts of rock to have any noticeable effect. I just don't think it's economically feasible, especially since the chance of the Caldera erupting within our lifetimes is less than one in a thousand.

Depends on the amount of ash that has been found there in the geologic record. The further away from the caldera radially the less amount of ash there will be. That being said ash can manly damage infrastructure by collapsing roofs and fucking up everything around it if it gets wet. It basically turns into cement after that

You do know that plastic is an adjective as well as a noun right?

plastic means it can deform without breaking - rocks can do this under heat/pressure. They can also melt. The plastic boundaries are between the brittle and melting zones. Plastic deformation can be seen in chevron folds, anti/synclines etc. Brittle deformation can be seen in faulting. Melting can be seen in migmatites and any igneous rock (basalt, granite etc.).

And no, plastic derived from hydocarbons can't be created by nature.

Mainly high evaporation rates + low absorbtion rates from plants (as the forests have been cut down to make room for crops). The rainfall levels, whilst still low, are raising the water table and then the high evaporation is increasing the salt in the upper layers, which then gets washed down into the groundwater stores. We also have a problem with water drawing from the Great Artesian Basin, the Murray River and with sea water infiltration due to excess pumping in coastal areas (most of our population are very close to the sea).

Really, it's a giant fuckup from generation before that we're now having to deal with. Working mostly in high desert to temperate conditions but used to work in the dunes of northern South Australia/South Western Queensland. Love that I have rocks about 500m from my house that are 650my old.

i live near seattle soooo if the wind is right i should just experience a bit of mild ash blankets.

the bad news is that if the eruption is truly the big bomb they make out to be, the volcano near me, rainer would probably be triggered. also food prices would sky rocket and there be would be a shortage of food since 2/3s of the us is now fucked. soooo i would probably have to go live off of chantrells, blackberries, and seafood i catch. Not ideal but could be hell of a lot worse.

If anyone lives in Indiana, Michigan, or Ohio you can come join my survival group. I don't have any crazy underground bunkers but I do have a small house in the upper peninsula of Michigan. I have canned food and military MREs (probably enough to feed several people for 2-3 years), medical supplies, guns and ammunition, fuel, etc. It's near an old copper mine so there's even a second location to go to if shit happens at the house.
>>
>>695168486
thats something that future generations would only have the capabilities to do. since A, we haven't drilled even remotely close to the magma layers. we've only drilled like a quarter of the way through the crust.

on top of that we don't have the technology to do so.

on top of that magma would tend to fuck up any drilling shit we would use since unless we can create something brand new, there is currently no known material we could use to withstand the pressure and the heat.

on top of that, the pressure inside the planet is unlike anything we have ever had to deal with in any point in history. so drill down, break a hole in the magma layer and boom goes the dynamite, you have a massive jet of lava that shoots up from the pressure that wouldn't be able to be controlled.
>>
>>695154088
This. But become boom bewm instead.

retreat to the underground u.f.o. base with all my grey friends and stay drunk on reptilian ale (them fucking reppies sure make a potent brew, dayum)

after several months, when the fountains of lava are done pumping out and most of wyoming the the upper plains states are thoroughly covered with ash, we'll re-emerge and begin colonizing the central portion of the country, as per plans

the grey republic will be entirely free of muslims, so we'll begin terraforming to return the central portion of the country to agricultural and urban planning quickly, and only invite in those 'colonists' from all the north american refugees we deem fit (absolutely no muslims of blm people or libtard multicultural feminazis

the grey republic will take it's place as a serious contender on the world economic stage, especially once we start marketing our 'seismic protection services' worldwide

we're expecting a big demand in japan, hawaii and other areas of the ring of fire, as we begin to quench the inevitable flare-ups that occur after a big caldera eruption

we might annex the pacific northwest, alaska and much of western and central canada after the united states economy finally tanks and the 'grey' dollar becomes the new, favoured currency worldwide

we've already had a black, muslim-licking lesbian president, so having an extraterrestrial grey hermaphrodite president in the 'grey house' would be par for the course

no muzzies, no libtards, no feminists and absolutely no fucking reptilians (but they can export all the sex aids and ale they want)

super-eruptions are an OPPORTUNITY people, so buy into this while its still on the drawing board and do yourself a favour !

When this puppy goes off it'll release ridiculous amounts ash in to the athmosphere and that ash will block almost all sunlight. Plant and animal life will be absolutely devastated globally and so will the human population.

Combine this with Fukushima reactor leaking and contaminating the worlds oceans slowly but surely, We'll be in for quite the shitshow.

This shit is gonna be fucking cash.

Are my stalkerbros ready for the apocalypse?

I plan to die of starvation as the Long Winter begins.
>>
>>695173269
this has never happened with any cauldera eruption as it has traced its way through upper u.s. territories as the continent has drifted over the hot spot

it will be bad, but as we have seen, it has definite geographic borders and the ash fall is the worst part of it, cause mammalian respiratory-related death due to lung scarring and silicate deposition and unrestrained bone growth

most herds of cattle and livestock and wild mammals will die within two weeks in the orange zone, with significant fatality rates throughout the pink zone

the soils will recover within 1 to 2 decades due to leaching, but this will actually improve soil fertility in the long run. many areas will only receive a dusting of 1 to 2 inches, but in other areas nearer the centre or distributed by weather patterns, the ash deposits could be hundreds of metres thick

we've seen the geologic and fossil records from past eruptions to know this

perhaps you're thinking of the sensationalist movies which showed a 'nuclear winter' scenario in europe and all of north america white with ash and barren

nope

the actual scientists and geologists and volcanologists who participated in that movie and presented actual science during it were badly disappointed by those last 20 minutes of the movie that showed this, especially that last 5 second shot, ok

do you mean how america has shaped and largely civilised and bettered the rest of the world

fucking libtard multicultural, muslim-licking apologist you are

the current civilisation of this planet is the ANGLO-AMERICAN civilisation, boyo, responsible for 90% of the scientific advances, nearly 100% of the increases in living standards, health, longevity and advanced learning in almost all endeavours and fields

so we made a few mistakes doing this, but we're also the ones who are correcting them as we learn from these mistakes

most other peoples and cultures prior to this were trying to rob each other blind and use warfare to acquire farmland and citizens, while we've focused on building wealth, uplifting people and helping them do the same
