>Did it work? Are you as coherent as before
One year seizure free now, and yeah I actually think my brain works better
I used to be on heavier medication which affected my cognitive function I think and I also had partial seizures every day which were distracting
I notice a slight deficit with my sense of direction now, I used to be able to navigate cities well but I recently traveled to Dublin and found myself referring to a map even for places I was at the day before
I'm studying the LSAT for law school and my scores have improved since pre surgery and I think most trouble before surgery was from the meds
It took about 10 months to feel back up to speed though
>>
>>694118170
Hopefully it works for you. Not everyone has sucess. I had an emergency appendectomy
>>
>>694118931
Very interesting, thanks answering. You wouldn't happen to have any information on the probes they use to stimulate the brain during the operation would you?
>>
>>694119062
Why do you ask...
>>
>>694119179
I think it's excellent that we've learned how to activate certain emotional and cognitive responses externally, and I want to learn more about the instruments themselves and how they work within neurology.

>probes they use to stimulate the brain during the operation would you?
I'm not sure they used probes
The surgery was a right anterior temporal lobectomy, hippocampectomy and amigdalectomy
They didn't need to do deep brain stimulation, they just cut out damaged tissue

A few months before surgery I had a 24hour a day video EEG for 10 days and they took me off my meds to promote seizures
Then they recorded every time I had a seizure. Fortunately all the seizures came from one area and it was safe to operate
There was also a fatty tumour on my right hippocampus. This was my MRI

OP here
DBS (deep brain stimulation) is mostly used for things like Parkinson's and frontal lobe epilepsy. I also recently saw a video about a girl with an eating disorder have DBS surgery which relieved her anxiety about food and appearance and she was able to get to a healthy weight
>>
>>694119468

>>
>>694119748

Well epilepsy is a physical condition caused by abnormal electrical activity
So if they identify and remove the tissue causing electrical issues then the patient could be cured like me
I've heard of DBS being used for depression though

I am a neuroscientist and we are currently working on finding novel treatments against mesial temporal lobe epilepsy since it is the most pharmacoresistant type of epilepsy. Our main goal is to use a technique based on illumination called optogenetics to control epileptiform activity in hippocampus.

I am glad that you are free from sizures!

3 shoulder surgeries. 1 on the left when i was 14, 1 on the right when i was 21, another on the right last year at 26. All 3 torn labrams/bankart repair (from several dislocations) mostly from rough-housing with friends or playing sports.

Spine surgery at 24. 2 herniated disks, one ruptured and pinched a nerve controled my entire right leg. From asscheek to toe it was completely paralyzed. Was fucking terrifying when that happened.. was living with chronic back pain for a couple years, did yoga now and then because it helped some. Was stretching, all of a sudden it got better.. then felt like my leg went to sleep and couldn't wake back up. Surgery was a breeze but still have a little bit of a limp and some of the muscles will never come back, but atleast i can walk and not living every day in excrutiating pain like before.

Being a giant sucks, doctors have determined most of these problems stem from being a huge guy
>inb4 fatass

Saw a urologist who ordered a CT scan but determined that they cant drain or remove the cysts because they are too small and there is a high risk of testicular damage. I have this.
The docs said to be careful when going to the dentist. To take some pills beforehand to avoid something or other.
That was a long time ago. Been fine not doing a damn thing for 30 years.

I cut the tip of my middle finger off when I was a little kid.
I tried picking up a lawnmower from the bottom, while it was running.

I'm not sure how I have lived as long as I have.

Doc's talking about antibiotics given prior dental works. When you have a bad valve you're more likely to get endocarditis. The bacteria from your dents are likely to enter the bloodstream and because of the bad flow inside the heart, due to the valve which is causing turbulence, bacteria are more likely to grow onto the valve.

Never had surgery though. Would want some Gyno repair myself (no steroids taken ever).

I'm over 30 now. Lost the braces a long time ago.
I feel fantastic. Doctors are just big worriers.
>>
>>694137400
Good for you! However, when you would've been sick (endocarditis can be life threatening) you'd wish you listened to a doctor advising you on a short antibiotic course. Don't know the numbers/intentions to treat on ab prophylactics and endocarditis though.

Were you awake during surgery? I wasn't because it was on my right

Also did you get simple and complex partial seizures? How long until you felt fully recovered? Its been 1 year now and I think I'm almost there

Yes I was conscious during surgery. Why does which side matter?

I should have been more specific. A tree fell on my head. I shouldn't even be alive right now, but I was helicoptered into Boston Medical, the best trauma unit in the state (they're the ones that deal with gunshots and shit), and they did good work.
A young kid in serious pain who was about to be treated was bumped behind me.

Never lost consciousness, though I lost the ability to speak until after the surgery.

You can see the screw and the titanium plate.
>>
>>694148338
>Why does which side matter
Left temporal lobe deals with verbal memory whereas right temporal lobe deals with visual memory and there is a narrower margin of error for LTL so they keep patients awake and stimulate parts of the brain to make sure they don't fuck with your verbal memory

It states in the holy bible that - "if your right hand does do evil, cut it off"- and that taken to the max, means brain sourgery. Removed my religious believes.
Would be sad, if i still could feel sadness.
I m not a robot?
Not sure.

When i was younger. Around 9 years old. I had some kind of skin shit growing around my left ear drum. I found out about it, because my ear started to bleed. Well, i had to get it removed, part of my ear drum went with it. I remember the gauze they put in my ear canal, when they took it out, it felt like rope being pulled out of my head. Needless to say, im deaf in my left ear.
