Mother series. I was referring to earthbound in particular but I guess I could throw mother 3 into this as well.
Outside of suffering from the perennial jRPG curse of being too fucking long, the mother series doesn't deviate far enough from the anemic mechanical design of the turn based hegemony of its time. Additionally, like almost all video games with any sort of narrative focus, the actual storytelling is nonparticipatory.

I'm talking about a critical appraisal here rather than the personal pleasure I get from the game. I like playing skyrim and skyrim is fucking terrible.
The reason I think undertale's story is inherently better than almost any other video game story is because it is respondent to your decision making, and indeed to your mechanical decision making rather than merely narrative yes/no pathing. Whether the storylines possible in undertale are better from a sheer writing perspective than the those in the mother series is more subjective, but the difference in critical quality is the presentation.

More is not better necessarily with regard to endings. Or rather, it is, but the number doesn't matter if the nature of them isn't interesting. Chrono trigger's endings are basically determined by when you choose to fight the final boss upon his becoming available, which is clever just because it's literally a game about time travel but doesn't exactly compare to undertale's more direct realization of consequences through gameplay.
Also, undertale has more than three endings. Neutral/genocide/true pacifist are the generally understood ones, but neutral has a ton of variations within itself.

I just remembered that FFX was basically about a ghost who came from a dream made by a dead city hunting down and murdering the whale that is his father.

They're similar on the surface, but wildly different in practice.
Civ is turn based, EUIV plays in real-time. Diplomacy is far more important in EUIV. You have somewhere in excess of 35 different diplomatic options.
Your chosen country also changes your playstyle radically. Aside from the bonuses they receive (like Civ) you also have different government types, different religions and the size/placement of your country can mean a lot. A big country like France plays differently to some tiny-ass citystate like the Vatican
And thats the tip of the iceberg. Trade mechanics, colonization, combat, everything is different.

Dude I don't replay ANYTHING. The only games I've played multiple times are the KotOR games out of sheer nostalgia and skyrim because of mods. Time spent replaying games is time I could be playing new games and getting better at multiplayer games (melee).

That is boring. The text of the book is the same the second time and there is rarely something I've missed in it that is not better discovered through discussion. Books and games I approach the same way - read/play once, find everything I can, and then discuss them with other people who enjoyed them. That is where novelty comes in.
And there's no game I enjoy playing more than melee so I'm not sure why I'd ever replay a game when I could be playing more melee.

It's not REPLAY VALUE when it's multiplayer, dude. The scenarios are novel because you're playing a human opponent. Or, in my case, practicing for a human opponent. Melee is a skill you hone rather than a singleplayer game which is generally just a one off experience.

General's have stats which add to combat
Siege stat is relatively rare and lends a bonus to when you're besieging a province with a castle.
Since sieging takes time it leaving you rather open. If you have to move your troops you lose your progress. A general with the siege stat is worth it's weight in gold.
She has SIX siege, where other generals are considered blessed to have 2-3
