How do you feel about the Flat Earth Theory?
>>
>>692967376
It's sole existence in modern society makes me lose faith in our species.

There is no convincing the people that believe in it.

Just let them have their moment.
It's not like it affects the rest of us.

I think you meant to post this in the LARGE BUTTHOLE section, anon.

I feel we as a society have failed in even allowing this idiocy to persist. Flat Earth can be disproven with the simplest of observations using measurements of shadows at noon on the equinox at two separate locations, and a little bit of math.
>>
It's impossible, that kind of shaped world would never form, and even if it somehow did, it would collapse from gravity alone.

I ignored it for the longest time because I thought it was retarded.
But here a while back I started looking into in for the purpose of refuting it.
I figured this shit should be easy to prove wrong.
Long story short the more I looked into it, the more I believed it.
Shit just makes sense.

Your religion is SCIENTISM.
Your prophets and high priests are Newton, Einstien,
Hawkings, among others.
Your holy books are Math and Physics.
Your god is Gravity
You have absolutely no evidence for your god's existence.
You can't measure it by any verifiable and authentic means.
You can't see it.
You can’t touch it.
The only sin is questioning your god.
If anyone criticizes your god or asks for evidence, you point them to your holy
books. If they still don't believe, you intimidate, scorn, castigate, insult.
If I told you fairies held me upside down on a spinning ball, you'd laugh
at me.
If I told you Alien energy could move 2 nonferrous objects together, the same
thing.
If I told you people could move into and out of the deadly
van allen radiation belts and not be harmed and told you it was by magic....
If I told you baby Jesus created a speck of dust, I mean
singularity, and created the whole universe from it, I have the feeling you
would not believe that either.
But you tell me gravity (latin gravitas meaning weight)
does all this and so much more.
Let us pray.

This is the kind of nonsense that makes the highly religious such laughable people.

It isn't magic. It isn't "God". Science is just things that humans have seen, then figured out. Observation and deduction.

>>692973675
You need to stop.

"Well, science is not religion and it doesn’t just come down to faith. Although it has many of religion’s virtues, it has none of its vices. Science is based upon verifiable evidence. Religious faith not only lacks evidence, its independence from evidence is its pride and joy, shouted from the rooftops. Why else would Christians wax critical of doubting Thomas? The other apostles are held up to us as exemplars of virtue because faith was enough for them. Doubting Thomas, on the other hand, required evidence. Perhaps he should be the patron saint of scientists.

One reason I receive the comment about science being a religion is because I believe in the fact of evolution. I even believe in it with passionate conviction. To some, this may superficially look like faith. But the evidence that makes me believe in evolution is not only overwhelmingly strong; it is freely available to anyone who takes the trouble to read up on it. Anyone can study the same evidence that I have and presumably come to the same conclusion. But if you have a belief that is based solely on faith, I can’t examine your reasons. You can retreat behind the private wall of faith where I can’t reach you.

Now in practice, of course, individual scientists do sometimes slip back into the vice of faith, and a few may believe so single-mindedly in a favorite theory that they occasionally falsify evidence. However, the fact that this sometimes happens doesn’t alter the principle that, when they do so, they do it with shame and not with pride. The method of science is so designed that it usually finds them out in the end."

A theory, such as gravity, grounds itself (pun intended).

>>
>>692974440
Because the Earth is not a perfect sphere.

Being 50% flat =/= Being 100% flat. You can't use the word "flat" to describe the actual, global Earth.

Spheres are shapes. Like you, a three-dimensional shape. Like balls, for example. I want you to take something incredibly straight and actually flat, and place it on the surface of the ball.

Do you know what happens?

The ball has a surface that, within a measurable boundary, is flat. It's not the entire ball, but it's some part of the ball nonetheless.

You know for a fact that geography makes the Earth much more different than a simple ball- so having things like deserts or mesas, or plateaus, or prairies- or ocean floors, will result in a larger percentage of the Earth's
>surface
being flat.

yet nobody, nobody can be taken to the moon, not at any price, even though there is a company that takes people out of orbit. Some billionaire offered them 4 billion dollars several years ago to take him to the moon. They couldn't do it. With 100,000 times the technology that was available in the 1960's and 70's, they couldn't do it.

... yes, the anon claimed that it was proven wrong over and over. What you're asking them to do, is somehow convince you in a way that I believe is impossible. Because it sounds like you want to go to the moon or something. Which you honestly aren't going to be able to do on a whim- let alone be able to send someone else up there on a whim and bring them back.

You don't believe in any of the physical evidence they could "give" you, either, regardless... You'll associate anything that indirectly is sufficient to their argument as well, should it be based solely on information and rationale... so, what are they supposed to do?

You're not going about this with much integrity.

The sun in your model is not orbiting the earth, it's floating above it, magically going in a random circle.

Earth orbits the sun through gravity on the round earth. What is causing the sun and moon to hover above the flat earth and float in a circle?

Listen I am not asking you to prove or disprove. This whole thing has been about perspective. Differen theories lend different perspective to the truth as a whole. I have listed the flaws with the conventional theory and listened to your retarts cordially. Despite this I am not convinced. I am not saying by theory is 100% the one true answer but it helps explain many discrepancies. Hopefully someday we can get to the point where science can fully explain all of this, but until that day why dismiss a valid theory? But sure. The cross hairs of the camera were etched into the glass, so they should always be on top of every object in the picture, but in several pictures, including the pretty iconic one with the waving American flag in the vacuum of space, the cross hairs are actually under objects. Its not much by itself, but when you combine it with everything else I've said, it starts to get pretty questionable.

I'm just saying. You really haven't been listing the -true- flaws of the conventional theory, or been listening to our retorts- because you believe we haven't made any sort of effort and are just being belligerent. Much of the science involved has been digested and discussed in this thread to varying degrees- granted, not all of the finer things, but most of the basic things. On both sides- and if you appeal to the authority of science as if it were the ultimate truth (don't), you have to acknowledge that the laws involved in the contemporary rulesets must be adhered to without error.

As in, it must be possible for a flat disk to form in the conditions where we suggest Earth has formed, and has continued to exist in it's state/s.

I mean no one can actually prove we're not in a computer simulation either. A flat earth is a possibility. There's research on both sides. I don't know or give a fuck which one is correct.
