Realistically, no one likes Ghostbusters for the concept. It's a dumb as fuck story. We liked it for the same reasons we liked Stripes or Cadyshack. It was about seeing once in a lifetime comedians with really great chemistry fuck around on screen. They could have done this with men and people would be equally as unenthused. But instead they went with the feminist meme and forced everything into "but now it's a woman" shit. This is bait, but fair enough, I'll explain.

The new Ghostbusters film perpetuates the idea that men are the norm and women the exception. It's also likely to perpetuate the stereotype that women aren't funny. If I were a feminist that sort of thing would really piss me off, but I'm not. I'm not going to see the new film for the same reason I pass on most movies: it simply doesn't interest me. The trailer was terribly unfunny to me and I really don't see the appeal of a movie about catching ghost. What made Ghostbusters great was its ensemble. The team was chosen and the script was written long before it was greenlit by a studio. This just seems like an obvious attempt to make money off an already established IP. As for the women thing, I think it's an interesting idea. More so than making another team of guys. I was never the guy who wanted to see a Ghostbusters 3 with 4 old men trying to catch ghosts. That's just silly! ...well, it is a comedy, so I suppose it could work, but again, it doesn't really appeal to me. Was it a decision to appease feminists and the female demographic at large? Definitely! I mean, the idea for a gender-swap was set long before there ever was a cast or even a script. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing. It will be, based on the trailer, but trailers can be misleading. Just take the trailer for Dredd, another movie I passed on originally. That one was great, but the trailer did not do it justice.

The problem is trailers are highlight reels of a movie. The writing looks absolutely atrocious.

It looks like it was written by men who stereotyped women and still true to do a lazy gender swap of the original roles. There's a reason why Comedy writing is especially difficult. Humor is subjective not only to the individual, but to the period, setting, and target audience.

This franchise already had a target audience with certain expectations of humor. You do not write at an SNL level for Arrested Development, as an example.

That is why I won't watch this movie. That is why the polls on the second trailer faired better.

Gender isn't a breaking point for me, it's the disconnect that does. They didn't make the black guy in the original talk like a hoodlum.

It wouldn't surprise me if there were half a dozen names on the writing credits. It looks like typical humor by committee. Humor has to be focused.

The Spider-Man trilogy were Marvel-licensed, but not made by Marvel Studios. They're Sony films. It's only recently that Sony has allowed Marvel to use Spider-Man in their own movies.
