To be fair, neither one takes much skill. Both are class based arena shooters where the "skill" comes from playing your class well which the games are designed to make easy for you. Really there are only two kinds of players for these kinds of games: Competent players who play their class correctly, and scrubs who don't.

All games take some amount of skill. Its just whether the amount of skill needed to be good at it is high or not that is important. If it is possible to be relatively good at a game with little time/effort put into it then the game takes minimal skill. Some games take a lot of time and effort to master, and it becomes apparent when you see a person who has done the work to build skill at it versus a person who has not. Its one of the reasons rts/moba players in the pros are just ridiculously better then the average player. There is a high possible variation of skill in those games. Same with some shooters/fighters/strategy games. To say no games take skill is just childish and blatantly wrong.

The thing I don't like about these kinds of games is that it really boils down to who sees who first and manages to pull the trigger first. When you can down another player in one shot or less then 2 seconds of shooting you can't really say you outskilled them much. Games where once a fight starts it can turn to favor either person involved depending on how they handle themselves during the fight is where skill takes a big part in the fight. Just wish there were more games where this was the case. Seems like most modern games favor instant kills over putting the players through an honest fight against each other.

The skills comes from knowing the maps, communicating, and effectively using all weapons (including grenade types). In casual mode where almost none of that happens it turns into who sees who first. If you want a game where you see how good you shoot while being shot at MechWarrior Online has that option. It may not be the best, but I enjoy it enough for being free.

I've been playing it since beta and currently I feel that it's in possibly it's best state. But Riot has to be more consistent with player toxicity. I mean really, banning Tyler1 just because Meteos doesn't like him? Right after he reformed too. Player toxicity has been going down really REALLY slowly but I still count it as a problem, but overall the game is at it's best right now imo.

man I remember I enjoyed the shit out of that as a kid but when I went back to play it...
The levels are repetitive as fuck and the combat has little depth, just attack, block or ranged attack. Finding also that last enemy or corner of the map in each level was fustrating as shit too since you move around so slowly. Even the chest opening animations were slow.
The story was still pretty great to be fair and the crafting system was nice.
