The information is definitely illegal--names, addresses, emails, phone #s and frankly, I don't see it being difficult to prove it was leaked/distributed with intent to harass, seeing how politically charged the whole thing is.

I'd call it unnecessary risk.

No, but it can make you an accessory in the event someone decides to use the linked files to harass the donors for politically-charged reasons.

2. Chances of prosecution

Quite low with the link. Medium-low with attaching the actual files and sending them around.

Let me ask this though: What is your/everyone's perceived point in doing this? Most of the people on the lists whose data was breached are just regular people who donated legally to a political party/politician. Even for those that are higher than 10K, there is no proof that they didn't donate in legal ways, such as through a SuperPAC. There is no overtly criminal information here, so why bother posting/spreading it in the first place?

Not really, just what I know and have trained on regarding the handling of PII for enterprise business and the common sense factor.

Since they're almost certainly legal, the only thing someone would be interested in doing with them would be politically motivated and that leaves using the data contained. The data contained is the addresses, full names, emails, etc. of people who donated to a political campaign. What can you possibly do with that data? harass or distribute further with intent to cause harassment.

Remember when Sarah Palin basically got Gabrielle Giffords shot by listing her as a crosshairs on a politically charged image? Same principle.

Can you honestly tell me that you don't think these documents endanger the donors if it was distributed enough? Politics is a very sticky thing and, frankly, a lot of retards go FULL RETARD when it comes to them.

You don't want to be accessories to harassment or worse as a result of distributing documents that show donors.
