Clutchless manuals are fun too. Ease of an automatic and most come with fancy paddle shifters that make it easier on you to shift instead of "clutch in, off gas, shift to next gear, clutch out, on gas, repeat".

Once you're over the novelty, paddle shifters are nowhere near as fun or engaging as a stick shift and are fucking garbage for slow moving traffic.

Semis can be 6(very old ones) all the way to 18 speeds. I have heard of a 21 from Euro for extreme heavy hauling But dont know much about it. 18 is way over kill in my book, and will pull just about anything you want. 13 is just right, drie it like a 10 speed with over driver.

DMC's we're made cool by Back to the future. In all honesty their ECU's we're complete trash and the engine was about the only reliable part of the car. In fact they we're prone to screwing up and locking you inside your own car because the ECU was so unreliable.

Manual, always. No problem with autos, they are actually better for 4 wheeling, but I prefer manual.
And nobody steals a manual, not that anyone would steal my rare piece of shit-mobile.
>>
>>690310089
Cheaper to replace worn parts like transmission.
Plus downshifting and engine braking saves brake wear.
Boom *mic drop*
>>
>>690309988
yeah, when I got the truck the person before me did not take care of it. it was in the shop about every week getting something fixed. Volvos are one of them trucks as soon as something goes wrong get it to the shop. One senor on it can control 100 other things. One night I drove from Norht Platt NE to Kansas City non stop in 10th gear, The Trans(its an auto not my choice I want to replace it but money) Stopped shifting. I was on the phone calling place after place to get it in, Westfall in KC was the only place open and that could get it in(I ran an account out of Topeka anyways so I was headed there). Once I got 99% of it working and fixed right, it has been a great truck, Ive got a lot of after market stuff on it, By-pass filters, Cold Air coolers etc. I couldnt really ask for anything better. I would trade it off for a Cab over though lol. 1st truck I drove was a Freightshaker Cabover.

>>
>>690310230
yup, The motor was underpowered too, to get the car like in the movie they changed out the motor. The wire form the trans to the shifter broke a lot too. Im glad DMC Dallas was able to fix all of that, If I had a 100k I would put my name on the list for the 2017 DMC coming out. They where a pos but that body style. Nothing else like it.
>>
>>690310527
They are also more fuel efficient.

>>

Not so much anymore since companies are making 7-8 speed automatics. Manuals were more fuel efficient in the past because you had 5-6 gears instead of 3-4 in the auto and the manuals had a much higher top gear so highway cruising was easier on the fuel.

I've had 2 manuals and 3 automatics. The automatic I have now you can slide the shifter to the right and it has a manual shifter, I think that is convienant. But for daily driving automatics are more convenient. Tbh I never really understood the debate about this topic. It really doesn't make a difference in any practical sense, and its not hard to learn. I learned stick with an old pos truck in a field when I was 12.

This debate is dumb.

>>
>>690313428
not good for the clutch unless 1 is a granny gear.
clutches are not too fun to do, and not cheap to pay someone else to do.
I had a friend who drove his car soooo shitty on the clutch it was just cringe inducing the entire time I rode with him, tried telling him he was gonna blow his clutch soon if he didn't change his driving style, he did, sold it to a mexican.
>>
>>690313899
Harder to pick up from the clutch onto glass because the trans studders but no, not horrible for it.
>>
>>690313899
Depends on a lot of things. Some cars have stupid short 1st gears that are only really useful for hill starts or heavy loads. In cars like that, if your engine has some torks, you can easily do it with very little extra wear on the clutch.

In semi trucks, it isn't uncommon to start in 3rd or 4th with a 10spd transmission on flat ground with a light load.

i drive a mid sized truck, i never see modern pickup trucks with manual. that said i rather have automatic for general purpose commuting and being stuck in traffic, manual i would get for a pleasure vehicle as if i could afford to have a second vehicle.

>and it went 30k km with meticulous maintenance before it was totally shot

The thing about an American 4.0L I6 with 180HP and 220 torks, you could run that thing with shitty gas and old oil for 500k miles before any major issues with the engine. There are so many vehicles with 4.0L 6cyl, 4.6 and 5.0 V8's that roll over 300k miles (500k km) without a single issue with the engine. Gas was cheap, so why not make big engines that will run forever?

Most vehicles if properly maintained, including 100,000 and 200,000 mile maintenance and replacements will run for damned-near ever. Minus ones with known ridiculous constant issues. Having an Escape make it that far is pretty amazing though.
My Montero has taken me to some insane places around Colorado mining and Jeep trails, with no lift kit, following 30-40k Jeeps easily. I bought it for 1,600$.

not him but more like knee pain, manual in rush hours is tedious as fuck

Not saying that they can't. Because they can in some cases. just saying that they generally have a very high cc but low output compared to others
>>
>>690305918
Manual of course, automatic is for wimpy dyslexic faggots

>>690314821
The 4.0 inline six in many Jeep platforms is notoriously the most indestructible engine ever built, right up there with the 350 Chevy and 351 Ford, Cleveland not Windsor.

Why do people who drive vehicles with manual transmissions have such a superiority complex? Its fucking retarded. Why are you so proud of it? Its not like its a hard skill to master. And I would say the pros of an auto far outweigh what little, and shrinking, pros there are to standards.

It seems tedious, and driving autos seems like a luxury after owning mostly manuals. But at this point I don't even think about it, shifting is second nature at this point. And fuck the asshole behind me, I am not going to do the clutch burn creep of a shitty traffic jam, I can let the car in front move a bit and get some room instead of shitting about at .7 mph. To each their own, I just love driving more than most people do, even in a shitty traffic jam. Just so long as I have my music blasting it is still zen to me.

That's pretty much what I was talking about with that post. Almost all of the 'murrican engines from the 90s and early 2000s were bulletproof. The Ferd 4.0 V6's and 4.6 V8's, the GM 5.7s, 3800 V6's, even the smaller GMs like those 2.3 Ecotec(?). You don't have to do shit as far as maintenance but the engine is rarely the thing which kills the car. Rust, electronics, transmission, something else will go before the engine.

I highly recommend against that anon, I did about 6 months in jail when I got 2 shitty drunk DUIs in a month after my 21st birthday. Having an interlock in your vehicle for over 2 years is the height of not fun also the jail.

>>690316352
In addition to blowing your car everyday, did you have to use the same technique in jail?

My cousin has a fleet chevy with the 5.7 that is rolling a half a mil very soon. Still runs like a champ even with all of his fucking dumbass employees trying to wreck the thing every other goddamned day. It was the first vehicle he bought as a company truck, the last wreck they took the mangled work bed off and fabricated a tow truck style flatbed with a lift. Frame is a bit jacked but it still drives straight and runs like a beast.
