It has been largely accepted that the Earth is round since the 5th Century BC, when Hellenistic astronomers like Aristotle and Pythagoras (or maybe others, who then had their works ascribed to 'wise men', as was common) noticed that constellations were visible in Egypt that weren't further north, and that shadows cast on the same day were different lengths at different latitudes.

Guys like Erastothenes and Aryabhatta even managed to estimate the circumference of the globe to a fairly accurate degree (Aryabhatta was only out by around 70 miles, too).

The idea persisted right through Antiquity, the Medieval period and Renaissance eras. It wasn't until the Enlightenment hit that people started thinking that ancient cultures believed the Earth was flat. Even then it was only as a way of pointing at ancient cultures and laughing at them in a "Ha ha, those idiots thought the world was flat!" way.

The GPS does not think. As of now, most if not all computers do not think. Not like us. Using the word think will cause too much confabulation and assumptions- so, stop. They function. They compute. It's analogous to rocks rolling down a hill, and when they come to a stop, they are at "the bottom". The only opinions related to the GPS are your opinions and feelings on the received data/directions/geolocation, and the opinions of those who programmed the GPS systems' functions. Not thoughts. Functions. Mechanical operations (logical, but saying logical tempts people to think that the GPS has feelings, too).

As to whether you know better than the GPS, it's possible. Because you have empirical experience, if you trust that you know where you're going. If you didn't know where you would be going previously, you would have had to make mistakes. You got information, when you learned that you needed to take a left instead of a right, and that one route is quicker than another, recommended route. This is because the GPS systems aren't omniscient. They're just machines. They lack intension or better problem-solving skills, because they're not made with that in mind. This could change over time, sure. But that would be expensive, and time consuming.

NASA has always held that the Earth is an oblate spheroid. You just didn't finish High School so you weren't taught that it was. Children get taught that the Earth is spherical because it's easy to visualise. It's like a ball, see? When you get older these things are clarified and built upon, because we teach kids the rough assumptions before we teach them how things actually work. Even then you don't know everything when you finish high school. College teaches you the hows and whys of astrophysics, because when you get down to it, that shit is complicated as fuck.

I mean, you'd think it would be easy to prove why the Earth is round, but to do that you have to answer why gravity acts as a force and why planets exist, and why stars form, and why galaxies exist. Even then you get curveballs like the fact that the universe is expanding thrown at you (answer that one and you'll get a Nobel Prize). It's like the young kid tactic of always asking why, continually. Even reasonably intelligent people with a good knowledgebase quickly run out of answers, because we simply don't know the specifics of our universe yet.
