Considering Danny might not take him as quickly as she did to Tyrion it might have been a calculation on his part to depart and have his working for her stand as something she accepts. That's notoriously hard to do, since the small intestine isn't moored to the surface at all. That means it can move around, and just get nicked on the surface as it is pushed aside. For it to be deadly, the filth inside would have to get out.

Now, to be sure, the stab wounds she suffered were in the right place to puncture it, and the Waif is a trained killer. Still though, it could happen that she just plain got lucky.

There was a dude several years ago that fell off a house and landed on some rebar. It went into the side of his abdomen and came out over his opposite shoulder.
