It's almost inevitable that eventually at some point an animal would kill the human.

The zoos choice was to stop the gorilla from being able to harm the child and the only reasonable way of doing that is to kill it. When faced with the backlash of killing a gorilla to save a child or having a child get killed in their gorilla enclosure the choice is very clear for the zoo.

That being said, zoos that have enclosures people can get into are antiquated and the zoo is at fault. The parent(s) are also criminally negligent and not only should they lose custody of their child but they should have to pay restitution to the zoo.

People working with specific types of animals always say they are the strongest/cutest/smartest/whateverst. If they gorilla really wanted to kill the kid, his head would have been ripped off and pooped on from the start. To be honest, fuck everybody that fucks up in a Zoo. You fell in, your problem. Best case scenario would have been as follows:

Fair point but killing the gorilla had the highest likely success rate and more importantly, to the public eye it would have the highest impact in making people think the zoo did everything in its power to save the child even if the child ended up dying.

The rest of the issue is a simple matter of what systems failed or didn't exist that allowed the kid to get in there in the first place.

The choice to kill the gorilla to save the child was, by far, the best option to keep the zoo from being close and the staff from being fired. Is it sad the gorilla was killed? Yes. Would it have been great if the kid never went in there? Yes, but none of that changes the fact that the kid went into the enclosure and if he had died the zoo could have been closed down, the staff would have lost their jobs, some would face criminal charges and, most importantly, public outrage would cause politicians to pass laws to make it harder to keep gorillas in zoos which just means more dead gorillas and less available research time.

You keep saying the zoo could have done something differently but the reality is they had no choice.
