Anyone else who thinks that i stole "Venus" and if so, would you tell me what was the original and when it was released. Also, i would appreciate link to that song.

for the first track you posted i dont even know where to start
1.you just threw in random crashes and sound effects
2. your entire meoldy is just 3 notes and has no actually rythmn to it
3. the drums a beyond woeful
4.your "drop" if you could call it that was retarded and still the same arpeggio of 3 notes
5. that stupid fucking " come on" sample just lopped over itself
6.litrerally 0 structure
7. the samples you used dont even sound good
over all really bad song

the second song is literally just the same song with a different shitty melody

Nope, i Didn't. I can't make cool drums, and i don't want to use drumloops so that's why the drums sound's little shitty.

nice song but the vocals ruin it completely for me
his voice just isnt memorable
>>
>>685592809
This is actually my opinion too.
I want honest feedback, not ass-licking or just pure bullshit. Constructive criticism is the way to go. Everyone could listen to my 1st track ever, it has not been mixed, it is really raw. After i got some constructive critics, I started to try mixing, and i can say that new tracks are far more better mixed, that the first one's. -OP
>>
>>685592965
Yeah i know that the "hook" is pretty lame, i should have used more time to do that, but it's done :s :D I'll go to check on ur project! -OP
>>
To be fair as I said it's not my cup of tea but from what I can hear sonically there isn't any clipping, the layers are audible and the volume difference between the lows and highs isn't too offensive.

So I would say it was mixed/produced well however I am not a fan. Nothing wrong with appreciating things you may not necessarily like.

The only thing about this song that needs work mixing wise is the melody. It needs lowpassed and the reverb mix needs lowered.

Don't just diss. Post your own artwork and let's be supportive to each others. Any of us aren't huge artist, making pile of money. So fuck all that, let's be "anonymous friends".

Tell me people;
As you diss my fx's and so on, how would you like to hear them, if they aren't good now?

I try to do my best every time, so without telling me how to do better, i cant do better.

If fx's sucks, tell me how to do it better, if you know what you're talking about.

Thanks

p.s I go for a smoke, and then im going to reply you and im going to review your stuff.

How are the drums inaudible.
The crash is audible
The kick is audible
The snare is audible
The hats or bells hes using are audible

If you quit listening on your shitty laptop speakers you might be able to know what your talking about. Like anon above said all the layers are distinguishable.

It's not the type of music I enjoy so my opinion on it is moot really as I don't know enough to say whether it's good or bad. So I try to find something about it that I can comment on to give some form of feedback.

just starting out, lemme know what you guys think
>>
www.soundcloud.com/lilthorns
>>
>>685594442
You can. Making electronic music is far more technical than it is theoretical. It's good because if you have decent ears you can actually make music without knowing the theory, at least as far as the "old" theory goes. You still gotta know a shitload of "new" theory, and that's how a variety of equipment works. But that's all practice.
>>
Op here,-

I have book.
Book about music theory.
It contains over 300 pages, full of text that is not so easy for me to read. Come on, i am an finnish guys, so it's pretty obvious that i cannot read 300 pages of english text :D
>>
>>685594848
I know finns are bretty good at making electronic music so I'm 100% positive there's a bunch of books on music theory in Finland.
>>
>>685594756
without knowing the basics of music theory your just limiting yourself as far as creativity goes
slowing down the whole process of writing rather than being able to know what notes in what order you want your stuck playing by ear until it sounds right
>>
>>
>>685594957
Yeah I guess it is a little slower, but by no means less creative. In fact I'd say you don't have the shackles that music theory imposes on you.

Besides music theory only goes so far in being usable these days. It only makes it easier for reading sheet music (which you won't need if you make electronic music) and the chords. Rest is all technicality and practice.
>>
>>685594947
>>685594957
U guys are serious that learning music theory could be useful? I have read the book, but i think i should read it few times, to understand it better.
I have bunch of new stuff coming out some day, and i will use those guides to work on better music.

-OP
>>
>>685595124
im not saying you should learn to read sheet music im saying more so for learning basic chords , scales and intervals
to say it removes shackles is an over statement unless your some musical prodigy the only thing your gonna teach yourself while fucking around is things that you could have learned in a couple of minutes with some basic knowledge
>>
>>
>>685595139
Reading a book probably won't work tbh. Book is only good as a supplement to a music course.

But if you feel alright without the theory then don't bother learning it. It's boring as fuck.
>>
>>685595139
>https://www.musictheory.net/lessons
handy site for learning basic theory
>>
>>685595263
Does it work like, after one note there comes another, specific to that note before? You know, should music be written in specific way to it be "good music" ?
>>
>>685595356
Huge thanks man! -OP
>>
>>685595263
Anon, like I said, the music theory doesn't have much of an application in electronic music these days. You can literally get a VST that'll do chords for you. The rest is fairly automatized. Sure you need to know shit like the note lenghts and tempoes and stuff but that just comes by practice. And remember that theory alone won't give you shit because you can't really understand it until you hear it.

I remember how overwhelming it was when I first launched the DAW. I read manuals and shit but it still felt weird. It took me some time to simply practice and get to know things. Same goes for stuff like compressors. On the other hand I read up a bit on FM synths but I can't use them for shit. So much for theory I guess...
>>
>>685595367
obvioulsy not , but without basic theory how long do you think it might take to come up with certain chords and no theory is going to outright tell you how to write music it gives you the tools to do it yourself but faster and more efficiently
>>
>>685595516
ok fair point but imagine if you knew how to actually make the chords your playing ? how your work could flourish through understanding why it sounds the way it does rather than let the vst do it for me
>>
One thing;
Most of my tracks do not contain any chords. They are made from notes, so there are no triads and so on because i have just learned about these stuff. Scales,- I know C major and every major scale, but chords... They are little harder for me as i like plain sounds...

-OP
>>
>>685595516
and how do you plan on making a chord progression without know what key your in?
>>
>>685588400
https://soundcloud.com/chloeburbank/besidju
>>
>>685595619
I see what you're saying and yeah I'd sure like to actually know the chords (i'm not using the vst i mentioned btw) but I just don't have the attention span to actually learn them. I do all my chords by ear and sure, they sound sub par but it's not as bad as you might think. It's actually kinda fun, you know. It's the journey, not the destination that counts for me.

I have so many tracks I never finished tbh.

>>685595736
I don't plan anything. I just do it and see if it sounds good. Usually does.
>>
Last sc thread got 152 replies, we have 113 now!
>>
>>685595830
thats your opinion but imo knowing how to make chords or knowing the scale doesnt hinder my experience/journey it enhances it and allows me to actually get the music from my head into my daw
>>

Both of you mongs are right to your extent.
However, if you're a person who knows nothing about music but is willing to go through trial and error, practice, learn as you go, and most importantly
are motivated and consistent, you will trump a theory based elitist who does nothing
but criticise other music and doesn't go to the length of the former.

I did Year 12 music, learnt theory but even then it just didn't click for me, I am horrible at it. But I know some basic stuff like keys, time signatures
but it is very basic. However, I love experimenting and have got some great stuff
out of it. That just depends on the kinda person you are though, so each to their own.

All in all, if you are consistent, learn from your mistakes, you'll ultimately be a better musician than a theory autist.

Overall, just have fun, create more and more material and you'll get some quality stuff.
>>
full of shit, whole thread. Good conversation, but it's dead. Fuck this.
>>
https://soundcloud.com/the-sunday-janes

My band makes rock n roll. This isn't the final version of the song, it's me on drums. Our drummer wrote a way better beat for it, but it's close
>>
>>685596120
sure you can go through trail and error but that would take you so much longer and it would eventually just teach you basic music theory the only difference is it teaches you your own way of doing it
>>
>>685596259
It doesn't take that long and you don't need it that much. If you're a guitarfag or something then I guess, yeah you may need the theory more, but if you're just making electronic stuff, you're hardly ever going to use all that theory. A lot of electronic music doesn't even use a single chord these days.
>>
>>685596259
I agree with that. I think it's finding a balance between learning the basics first, then finding your own style in regards to how you approach your song and how its going to sound.
>>
>>685596371
most genres of electronic music use chords unless your talking about edm but even that has basic chord progressions
plus im not saying learn tonnes of theory your missing the point im saying the very BASICS
>>
Blaggg
>>
Where da ppl went
>>
>>685596371
>>685596259
Music theory is fine to know, every musician eventually learns a basic level just through playing, forming chords, etc. whether you want to get a masters in it or stick with the basics is just up to whether or not you want to conduct orchestras or not. Also, been playing guitar for 10 years and didn't start getting into theory till like last year, so no you don't need it, especially since guitarists learn from tabs. And to say something doesn't use a chord is to either imply you can strum a midi controller like a guitar, or that the entire song is just a baseless gibberish melody that constantly changes, and even then you would still technically be arpeggiating some type of chord.

>>685596506
I'm not missing your point. I' msaying that the basics are actually what you can either skip or just learn on the way via practice. Then again, it all depends on whether you have decent ears. If you can't hear for shit then no amount of theory will save you. You might produce music but it'll sounds really stale. On the other hand, if you have a good ear for music, you can produce wonderful stuff. It's all about actually liking to do it instead of doing it for the purpose of making money or whatever.
