Concept art is very different from both of those. First you're going to need to learn anatomy, you won't have to learn it all, just the skeletal structure and the muscles on the surface, you're going to need to know how these parts fit together and how they move. A really good trick they teach you at school is to stop thinking about them like muscles, and instead look at them as basic shapes. Look at everything as just a shape. You'll also need to learn perspective so you can pose the characters you draw.
So here's what you do, you start with a very light gestural drawing to establish the pose. Then you put some basic shapes in for the parts of the body, two cylinders each for the arms and legs, a big box for the torso, etc. Then you take all the surfaces muscles that you learned and attach them where they're supposed to go. Each of these should be done on a different sheet of paper. Put the gesture drawing on a blank sheet, then attach a sheet of tracing paper for each subsequent layer. This will allow you a way to very quickly and easily refer back to earlier steps in case you lose your way like a road map.
