I don't think there is any magical number. Obviously there are multi millionaires our age then there are plenty of people with a shit ton of debt.

To me you look like you're in good standing. But 7k would only get you so far if you had a real emergency. I'd like to say 50-100k is a good amount to have saved in case you need to stop working for x amount of time or pay some unexpected shit. But still it's not bad especially if you live in a cheaper area.

My rent is 3k per month so 7k would not last long.

Kinda, but I didn't waste it. I ended the boom with around $35k in savings and my 401k up to 310, but I found out my dad wasn't telling me a lot of stuff wasn't as good as he was making them out to be, so I ended up spending around 20k getting his house back up to standard. 4k more for a beater to drive to work and back, then about 3k more for certification courses...I'm making about half of what I was during the boom which is not assured at all for the future, so I'm steadily building back up.

I have been homeless with 18 and had nothing to eat at all. My current lifestyle is much better, I have a good flat in the woods, a PC, Internet and basic things like a new kitchen and laundry. Compared to the last year this is luxury tier (for me).

I'll say this as someone who has stupid amounts of money (I got burned by the real estate bust, which is why I did a lot better in this oil boom than a lot did): don't ever let it control your decisions when it comes to doing what's right. You can always find a quick hustle that screws people over, but it's not worth it in the end. Be willing to go broke doing what you know and feel is right. You can always get money again.
