My stance is that there was a biological advantage to sexual reproduction. This is clear. But that doesn't mean it will ALWAYS be an advantage. So while male and female arose naturally, at this point is has become as much a social thing as a biological one. But some of those biological carry-overs can be strong. And I believe that there are differences in neurologically between men and women. And I believe that sometimes one can be born with a neurology that doesn't match their physiology, because carbon based evolution formed life does stuff like that.
