I was trying to kick one of these off last night.
I don't know shit about metal except what wutkradio.com plays during the Funeral Directory. It's not something I listen to often, but whenever it's on I tune in and get my head checked. I know there are far more types of metal than I could shake a rusty nail at.

It's difficult to get a good overview of a genre with some many divisions and subdivisions, I'd recommend gettiing or reading online the Terrorizer albums of the year and their genre special issues.
