I've been drawing for 10 years, and I've never had any focus on "gitting gud"(though I have started to value good fundamentals a lot more this last year).
I draw for fun, I mimic artist I admire and build from there. My first draw years were copying from manga I read and the early "how to draw manga books", I had both of the "how to draw pretty gals", plus a few more. I would then use what I'd learnt copying in my freestyle drawings. I believe if you draw a lot and build up a "skeleton" you know really well, it doesn't matter it it's pretty flawed, because once you use a ref, you'll see stuff like "where I usually draw a flat line, it really curves, because of that underlying bulge."
I've also had huuuuuge amounts of exposure to drawn media, all of it well drawn as I can't follow shit that looks too bad. So, find shows you like and pick up tricks and inspiration there.
Doxy is one of the artists I think has pushed me the furthest in my later years, and his tutorials are some of the few I bother to read. I think he has a very good understanding of shapes, and his construction is very easy to read from his sketches, so you learn a lot simply by enjoying his work.
Unfortunately, I've never been very good at giving aspiring artists any tips, and my journey has been very long, so if you want some more hasty progression, I guess I'd suggest Vilppu, as I see a lot of artist getting great results with him.
Main line is find a way to draw that you have fun with, draw a lot, and don't draw for anybody other than yourself.

I draw almost subconsciously practically all the time, and I expose myself to media I like. When I pick up some detail I really love, I try to break down and analyze that and integrate it into what I do.
Love drawing and looking at other peoples art is my recipe.

That's super interesting. I've never thought about it that way, but I can certainly see where you're coming from and I agree. I also find myself rewatching more and more shows which artstyle I really like, and just for that. Seems like we've got that in common.
