I say 2005 marked the time the internet went to shit. the early internet while slow, provided a barrier of entry to those without technical know-how effectively making the internet a haven for nerds geeks and other like-minded individuals.
unfortunately with the advent of web 2.0 social media YouTube and the like we have now introduced the Internet to people who honestly have no business being here.

this makes me sad.
having used the internet since the mid-90s, i witness the massive changes it underwent in the mid-2000s.
while some changes arent bad, the fact that now no one does anything on the internet unless they can get money from it, has turned the web into a pile of dogshit.
before people made content with no regards to profit. they did it because they wanted to, and if they lost money, no matter, because it was a HOBBY first and foremost. now if someone tries an original idea, it gets copied to death to the point the creator gets shouted down

>early 90s
>BBS/fidonet

well no fucking shit the BBS set up was total ass. that was when that entire "sector" if you will was in total meltdown, destroy itself mode.
when people tried monetizing the BBS, that gave rise to a BBS conference (cant remember the naem) where a few "board members" kicked out some of the original creators (notably Tom Jennings)
after that, BBS died and the internet began.

the late 80s/early 90s for the BBS were very ugly. and i see the exact same fucking thing happening with the web
>>
>>606478744
>there was little copying or sharing of music unless it was on tape.

piracy was huge during the 90s. before cd burning became dirt cheap people would record cds onto DAT tapes or other mediums and distribute that way.

So, how come at an urban university with 25K students, I never saw anyone pirate music in 4 years, EVER? unless it was "dubbing" a cassette or CD to another cassette. it seems so tiny today.

sadly i have noticed that nearly everyone takes this shit for granted now. Even software devs who think

when HDD space blew up, people stopped being efficient.

Either this is bullshit, you used a much later version, or you were one of the very lucky few whose mark used a webcam that sub7 actually saw.

the version in the 90s/2000/20001 had webcam functionality but it never worked, except for i think 1 brand of camera

What was nice about those disks is that you could use them as sources in your reports.

now with wikipedia (which most schools dont accept as a source), obtaining acceptable information requires a bit of digging now, which usually means several full days at the library.
