Lifting gives more weight loss than cardio does.

Cardio is mainly for improving circulatory system health like your heart and such, but lifting is what gives actual weight loss.
The more muscle you have the higher your BMR is. Cardio doesn't build muscle, lifting does.

You can't exactly do squats and deadlifts anymore I guess, but that depends what prosthetic you get, but if you work your upper body like a beast you'll stay perfectly healthy.

i lost a leg once, came out of KFC, stumbled and a peice of chicken came flying out
i COULD have picked it up but there were a couple of hot chicks coming in, it was hard but i managed to walk away.
some nights i stay awake thinking about it... they say time heals... i hope so :(

OP i have been diagnosed with a degenerative nerve disease which will slowly but surely eat me up and leave me disabled, id much rather have a leg cut off and learn to adapt than having to just prepare for a future with little to no functionality in many body parts...

I wasn't feeling too bad for you OP until I realised you're only 21. That's gonna be a hard as fuck thing to come to terms with at your age. If you were younger when it happened you'd be used to it by now from having grown up with it, and if you were older you'd at least have had more of an adult life with all your limbs. But the perspective you're forced to take on will change everything for you, you're going to have to work harder than everybody else just to regain your mobility, which you might see as an added hurdle other people don't have. But the perseverance will give you a confidence and determination, in all 'walks' [I'm so sorry] of life, which your peers will grow to envy of you.

Or you might give up and let it destroy you, but either way - with the direction technology's heading your disability will become less and less of a noticeable disability, until one day in your lifetime it might actually be an advantage.
