Post the place and we will decide whether or not its a McDojo.

Here's one to start, McDojo or not?

Also

I hate that stuff. This isn't kimchiland, have a little humility, you're not running a cult. Reminds me of some guy in France who had people call him "Shihan". Like please, get real, Jim Jones.

Yeah, apparently Rando just got his 6th dan black belt, despite only getting his 5th last year. Some bullshit going on there.

Technically, fat people who lose weight through martial arts training will (usually) be more confident, and be a lot more adept at what they trained (given that they have no training at all) than they were before those 45 days.

when I was in 4th grade a kid in my class was their first blackbelt. he was fucking 8 years old

the uniforms have changed these days, they don't wear a gi top anymore, now its the white karate pants with a custom black compression shirt that has their symbol on the back of it
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YtXavLhVTTc

they technically dont even teach karate anymore, they rebranded as "MMA" minus the first M since they only teach kickboxing

I had a "black belt" from our local McDojo show up to try class at my dojo the other night. I couldn't decide whether to laugh or cry. Also morally infuriating since the lack of technique could lead to injuries, I'm talking no pivot on round or side kicks. Jesus.

what about this one?

Internet says that SBGi affiliate means antimcdojo, but maybe anon can clarify

also, for mma they have a "standing" mma twice a weak, "ground" mma once a week and "free space" (whatever that means, sparring?) once a week? is that an ok schedule and why "standing" and "ground" parts are separated?

not really mcdojo, but their massive hate-boner for tradition and culture seems almost SJW-tier.
>>
>>738179

Conclusion
Bowing to spirits of mats and pictures of dead people is Shinto and violates Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Uncritical obedience to Shinto brought disaster on Japan in WWII. Shinto hasn't helped judo in the United States, either. Many Americans distrust judo's Shinto religious rituals disguised as "tradition."

Let judo be a sport, not a cult.
Stop forced bowing to spirits!

lol, this shit reads like an sjw tumblr.

perhaps these comments will answer your question

>When I use to take TSMMA I didn't care what martial arts other people took. As long as they liked it and it worked for them then that's great. We were not taught to compete against other schools. Any teacher that does that is bs.

>Tiger Schulmann's doesn't just GIVE blackbelts to anyone. The have a very long testing process starting from the day you begin. Yes there are 9 year olds that have blackbelts. It's about the skill of their techniques, non-quitting spirit, and hard work put in. A 9 year old blackbelt from Tiger Schulmann's not only knows how to defend themselves (An adult is a different story) but they have great self-confidence, and self-discipline. As a child, this is extremely important. Think before you spea
>>
http://martinacademy.com
i know they compete but I'm not sure how well they do. I am interested in doing muay thai and STX kickboxing here. this is the only muay thai place in my area. would i be better off going to a mexican boxing gym in the ghetto or does this place look legit?

there are a couple others in the city (ottawa, ontario), but i think this one seems the most legit. i'm still not sure, though, since this would be the first adult dojo i'd use. i was planning on starting muay thai only for long-term.

How much sparring should i be doing? I've just started kickboxing lessons twice a week and i've sparred one in 6 sessions (light sparring).

Also, how do the belt systems and gradings work in Kickboxing if there's no katas? Do they just call certain kicks and punches and expect you to know them?

What is a McDojo and why would you not want to go to one? Is Tiger Schulmans a McDojo?
>>
>>746418
a mcdojo at its core is a martial arts school that is of such low quality it could be considered a scam, usually identified by unqualified instructors making ridiculous claims about what they teach and charging a lot of money to attend.

tiger shulmans is the "belt factory" variant of mcdojo. and while I will say you might learn the basics there, they also give full fledged senior level blackbelts to 8 year olds. I for one don't respect it and as an instructor when people tell me they train there I try to be polite but roll my eyes on the inside
>>
>>746422
what exactly are the qualifications/requirements for receiving a black belt? Why can't it be done by an 8 year old? Is there a real reason or is it just because of oldheads who don't have a blackbelt who get mad about it
>>
>>746462
8 year olds lack the cognitive development to be considered proficient at any physical activity, not to mention the years of practice required would mean that they have been receiving meaningful instruction for a number of years leading up to it

the company I work for has invested a lot into understanding the limitations of children, and physiologically an 8 year old can barely fight with anything that would be considered proper form because of their rudimentary motor function.
like for example for an adult to transfer weight to their back leg, snap their other leg, while keeping their hands up and aiming for a target is tricky enough to learn how to do, for children at that age its next to impossible.

if you look at legitimate schools you will see disciplined adults receiving blackbelts after years of practice, 5, 10, or more.
Tiger shulman is free to set his own standards for the produce the wants to put out, but basically he is selling something that says "my system is so simple and basic a 6 year old can master it by the time they are 8"

another side note about where I work, if you are under age 11 you aren't even allowed to have adult belts, Everything up until age 11 is a variation of white belt with a colored stripe on it, at 11 you can actually start training.
>>
>>737182
My TKD club only lets under 12's get up to 7th Kup (11th kup is white belt, after 0 kup is first dan)

it should take a minimum of 3 years to get up to 0kup, that's where I am now, a probationary blackbelt. Going higher requires a written essay, showing that I am capable of all the 8 Tae Geuk forms, the 5 Pyung Ahn forms, and a new form called Koryo. It also requires proving to the Council of Blackbelts that you are emotionally and physically ready by completing physical challenges and at least one training session with the Grandmaster who i have never trained with before, but i've heard it's hell.

There are actually 15 year olds with black-belts, and some of them have in the past been shit, that's why there are now physical tests and why a lot of the shit ones dropped out, very few 15 year old blackbelts will be handed out now, the only current teen with a black belt is an amazingly talented girl who is the daughter of one of the trainers, a man with decades of experience in many martial arts.

I need a Beep test score over 8, 60 push ups in 3 mins, 60 sit ups in three mins and some other tests they get to name.

Blackbelt is really only the beginning of your training though, 1st dan means very little and can be acquired in as little as 3.5 years by anybody with little effort, working hard you can reduce that time by a year, or technically to 2 years if you train 4 times a week over any of the 3 dojos under this grand-master, but it's never actually been allowed to my knowledge.

Failing a grading is rare, but that's because trainers will not allow you to grade if they feel you are not ready for it.

>>746418
Wasn't Some UFC fighter came from Schullman? Uriah Hall?
>>
>>737272
i live in philly, that place is good
>>
>>746749
tiger wasn't his training camp, and schulman himself was an MMA fighter so this isnt to say he couldn't introduce his students to good trainers. But that is not the product being sold in his schools where he doesn't even participate in the training

>around the eight session its the same but they had me do combinations infront of the mirror. lost count because I was pretty much starting to enjoy it now
>combos now dont feel awkward and feel more natural
>training eventually led to me standing infront of a tennis ball tied from the roof
>mfw bob and weave 250 time. FREE
>I aint complaining, these shits absolutely cash
>it led to me bob and weaving while throwing out combinations. FREE
>next week they said that I would actually start with the sparring but I would first need to stand infront of a numbered punching bag (7-1-2-3-4-5-6) and listen to an old dude throw numbers around and punch the shit out of that bag
>they also said I will have to pay now

not really complaining about the free things but is this method actually legit? dont get me wrong im enjoying it now. I dont know why, it feels fucking right but I dont have to waste time if this is some shitty filipino gimmick

sounds alright by me. My trainers wouldnt even let people spar until they were confident on the bags and shadow boxing, which was a result of hours and hours of just repetitive training

It looks alright to me. Give it a shot.

If it's not on a cloudy mountain top it's a mcdojo. No ifs and or buts.

Judoka here, no idea how to spot McDojos from websites (except that a shit website means it's usually not a McDojo).

Is this a McDojo?
http://www.ekk.com.au/
They do all of the "sensei/senpai" shit, and they've got a coach who looks like she might literally be about 12, but on the other hand KK seems to be fairly immune from McDojoness.

I just want to play a sport where we punch each other until we fall over. I don't want this weeb shit.

Wait, scrap that.
I found a club that's actually closer to me that has a shithouse website.

It says manlets are very good at cherry picking, even if they can't reach the trees themselves.

There's a $30 trial fee that goes toward a membership if you decide to join. Is this place a McDojo?

>That one where the little kid kani basamis the other little kid
I thought mcdojos were meant to be all about safety?

Still hoping for some feedback on this one.

>$30 trial fee
thats weird. its an industry standard to offer at least one trial class for free
>>

I did that to one of my kids today, he wanted to try and take me down and really just set himself up for it
