5-star matches are so useless, I don't know why people bring them up. What matters is DRAW, not how many stars someone gives a match.

>plus his pipe bomb seems to always pop up on top promo lists usually close to the original "Stone Cold 3:16" promo

That's because it's a recent moment and people tend to overrate recent things -- which they have with the "pipe bomb" thing.

Paul Heyman and Joey Styles cut very, VERY similar promos years before and they were as good, but forgotten.

Was he bad? No.

Was he overrated? Very.
>>
>>1119782
>Draw
I genuinely want to know what "draw" means because it always comes up in debates like these. Ratings, ppv buys, and merch sales are what my google searches get me.

but no matter what, no matter how popular a wrestler is, he's never a draw. Steve Austin wasn't a draw, Brian wasn't a Draw, punk: not a draw. I feel like in 5 to 10 years someone will argue cena wasn't a draw.
>>
>punk fucking off gave us the best wrestlemania moment since benoit at 20

I don't care what people say, he was a reason for me start watching WWE again since old days.

These days suck. More than 95% can't even cut a fucking decent promo.

I'm just watching WWF Raw Is War 1997/06/30 and this fatty can have more heat, since undertakers fangirl just jumped to fight him, and GOAT promos than everybody these days.

joey looked and sounded like a butthurt loser nerd.

it was all about punk's delivery, the manner, timing and his whole attitude was just perfect.

This. I'm not a shareholder. I don't give a fuck how much money a wrestler brings in. It does not factor in *at all* when it comes to how much I like a guy. I don't think any of my GOATs were real draws.
>>
>>1119982
You should care about it as much as star-ratings: 0.
>>
>>1119914
>joey looked and sounded like a butthurt loser nerd.

As was Style's and Heyman's.

>even heyman's rant pales in comparison, when you outdo the best in the business you know you have something special

Copy & pasting their rants doesn't make it a better rant.

Punk didn't outdo either; at best, he did the same. If you can't accept that, I'll just have to move on.

shit you're retarded

>What matters is DRAW
so mcdonalds makes the best hamburgers, because they have the most sales? your entire premise is flawed, not to mention Punk is the greatest draw from original Rock and Austin until Daniel Bryan...

>It's a recent moment
Punk's original pipebomb was at the early/middle part of his career. It was after SES, but before his feud with Cena. Either way, I think it's been around five years. I wouldn't call that "recent"

>Paul Heyman... cut very, VERY similar promos...
ECW's problem wasn't that it wasn't drawing, it was that it was drawing TOO MUCH. ECW outgrew itself and the business side of it is what put them out of business. ECW couldn't keep talent because WCW and WWF tried hard to get everyone. their tv business deals were hurting them from a financial side. ECW failed as a business model, not as a wrestling promotion
>>

Attitude Era will always be the greatest era in history

>competition breeds greatness
>will never be as good of competition as Turner's billions buying anyone they want
>Society in the late 90s will never be as great again. It was like a white rapper: you got a sense of edginess and danger, but not too dangerous for it to be scary
>>
>>1120056
>It fit his rant.
nope, i'm pretty sure he thought he was going to get a similar reaction to what punk did, but because he's such a whiny little bitch no one gave a shit

you do know that the crowd were booing the shit heyman and styles during their rants right

watching them back they're not really similar at all. punk's was a lot more personal, which i believed granted him a much stronger connection with the crowd. the other two were more focused on the direction the company was headed

besides, it's not like they were the first two to pull that shit anyway... steiner's in WCW was more similar and much more effective
>>
>>1120073

Well, some people say it was WCW NWO era.

I still prefer 96 - 2001 WWF vs 96 - 2001 WCW

>>
>>1120078
> crowd was booing Joey for ranting about the state of commentary

>>
>>1120112

I like both, boy. I still prefer that WWF era because of superstars and match quality.

Watching Piper vs Hogan, for example, was boring. Besides the GOAT promos.
>>
>>1120064
>so mcdonalds makes the best hamburgers, because they have the most sales? your entire premise is flawed, not to mention Punk is the greatest draw from original Rock and Austin until Daniel Bryan...

The whole business is built on working marks, and that means getting their money
>>
>>1120143
Maybe in 1986

But that "fuck you dumb fans you'll like what we want you to like" mentality hasn't been doing too well for WWE over the past 15 years
>>
>>1120125
WCW always had better quality undercards until they brought Russo in, but WWF had better main events.

'97 was probably the most underrated WWF year but still had the stupid ass Gang Warfare shit
>>
>>1120193
Giving the fans what they like is working the marks, CM Punk cutting a fake shoot is working the marks. 80s had better (and much much more) wrestling anyways so I don't see your point
>>
>>1120196

True. I really liked Jericho, Eddie, and so on, matches. Still they did not get the credit others had.

I'm watching RAW building into Summerslam 97. I will later begin with WCW 97 year.

CM Punk is authentic. He's someone I can look at and find interesting. Punk has personality, beliefs, and passions. There's nothing generic, or fake about him. So when he wrestles, I believe in him.

10/10 in-ring performer and storyteller. Guy is absolutely amazing.

I miss CM Punk, but I don't want him to return. WWE fucked him over. I don't blame him for taking off. I'll support whatever decision he makes, but those assholes are long overdue for karma.
>>
I do miss the guy. His matches towards the end were sloppy due to injury. Honestly he is a great talent. His promos were always great. He played that egotistical heel to the T. He was never gifted athletically but his work ethic is what was impressive. Being from Chicago was the cherry on top.
>>
>>1120271

>Muh murder capital

Nice post Jamal
>>
>>1120109
When I say "Attitude Era," I include wrestling in general, not just the eponymous WWF

>WWF with Attitude Era
>WCW with the nWo
>ECW with their insane shit

Turner's money was the catalyst for it all. If you'd made Turner vanish, ECW would've risen on its own and WWF would have continued to be shit - and who knows what would've happened. Turner's money lit the fire that made WWF get creative, and got ECW guys to jump ship (and for some, to be good enough to get recruited as ship jumpers).

Historians generally hate counterfactuals (what-ifs), but Turner was definitely a huge catalyst for that era of wrestling
>>
>>1120143
>>1120193

nowadays, in Vince's eyes, "draw" means "merch sales." That's a huge part of why Cena and Roman have their pushes (longevity for the former, and forced for the latter). Selling merch to kids is their main job. I work in retail, and Reigns action figures are selling more than anyone's right now - even more than Cena's. Reigns sells merch, and that's all that matters -whether he gets boo'd out of the arena or not

Yeah I miss him in RoH where he belonged having better matches than he had any right to. Not in WWE. I'm happy he got out of pro wrestling. I hope he finds some success in UFC and if not I hope he trains BJJ for the rest of his life which he probably will, and chills and meets cool people and has fun and teaches kids cool shit, and does other cool things with his life instead of becoming a crippled junkie like most pro wrestlers.

He had a good run.

I just learned this morning about his appearance on Off The Record in which he acted like a total faggot to the interviewer. Is this guy in a state of arrested development or what? Where his parents divorced when he was young? Did his dad abuse him?

Can someone explain why most humans mature, but CM Punk has been unable to?

Tbh I hate everything about What Culture's videos "10 things WWE wants you to forget" except for the content. If they didn't have a British announcer who talks too fast and the annoying format, and instead just listed the moments in text, it would be much more enjoyable. Anyway, here is CM Punk acted like a child, and apparently it's WWE's fault for wanting you to forget this guy was an asshole to everyone.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zr8eIqh_Eys
>>

>>
>>1120056
Heyman > Styles > Punk, in order of stake they had, legitimacy of criticism, and promo quality. ECW guys all do the same shoot promo, but Punk was from the new ECW, so his version had to be watered down shit.
>>
>>1120271
Yeah, he felt kind of like one of us. Then I met him in Wicker Park and he was a huge dick to me and I KNEW he was one of us.
>>
>>1121613
i think punks an overrated faggot and even I can't blame him for disrespecting Landsfag.
>>
>>1119178
Nah, HHH is gonna win when Steph throws ceremonial salts in Roman's eyes allowing for the easy pedigree and pin. Then Cena will rush the ring and say how bogus that was and challenge him to an impromptu main event match for the title. And that's how Cena becomes 16 time champ.

They can do it too, since Hogan doesn't exist anymore, so Hogan/Yokozuna has been wiped from history.
>>
So if I have sex, will the quality of my posts improve?
>>
>>1121883

You will begin to truly understand pro-wrestling as a business. You will stop irrationally hating stars like Cena, Ryback, Roman Reigns, in fact you will become a fan and lose your fan boy loyalty to indie darlings.
