If you wanted to make one then you'd need to either get an M16A1, swap the entire front end (G&P makes an E1 kit), and change the stock.
OR you would have to get an M4, spend $100+ for the correct receiver, change the grip, change the stock, change the barrel, change the handguards, and call it a day.

I don't know much about Vietnam era stuff (I'm more of a post 'Nam, pre-2000) kind of guy, but this is what I can tell you.
OD for early to mid Vietnam, ERDL and tiger stripe for mid to late (Don't go before 1968 with ERDL unless you're doing an SF kit, and it should be early 1967 then). You can always mix and match.
Web gear is going to be M-1956 for early to mid and M-1967 for mid to late; keep in mind that there were examples of soldiers using M-1956 pouches with M-1967 rigs.

Can't say as far as Peltor goes (I have never owned a pair) but these earmuffs are pretty comfortable.
The padding isn't too thick but it sits in just the right spot over my ears.

Yes, the F1 might maul the shit out of brass, only really work well with the right kind of ammo, and the plastic would crack on early ones, but you know what? If you have ammo made for it's twist rate, and with casings that can stand the violent action, the F1 will work as a rifle for you.
It's being replaced because the French can't get the ammo that works for it anymore, and that's finally an issue with it that they can't ignore anymore.
They REALLY should have gone with the G2 back when they had the chance, then they would have had quite a good rifle and compatibility with regular NATO ammunition and mags.
The INSAS? Not so much. You can feed it the nicest Sellier & Bellot or Buffalo Bore, and it'll find a way to shit the bed in some unreasonable manner, while spitting hot gas in your face and randomly firing in full-auto.

Ares/King Arms used to make a full length FAL, but it's been discontinued, so second hand market seems the only source for it.
TM and JG make plastic G3, Classic Army make metal ones (bit fragile though) which only seem to be available in Germany.

It was conceptualized as a cross between the AKM and FAL, in .223, which is a fine idea on paper, look at the FNC.

I loved using mine on Sunday, but single-shot is a weak point with the TM. It sometimes locked up after switching from automatic, and could only be remedied by firing another burst then trying again. That said, the range and consistency I was getting was brilliant.
Personally, I bought it 'cause I've always loved the FAMAS aesthetically, a reason that gets me funny looks from most people.

No, it has a crap pot metal body. Only EBR worth the money and still in production is the G&G, but if you can find a CA they are good. G&P makes a decent m14 that takes tm style mags, has a pistol grip, adjustable stock, and a little bit of rail.
