I know some speakers personally, so I would beg to differ on that last point. Also worth noting is that while it is no longer a national language per se (Vatican City notwithstanding), it underpins so many major languages and large parts of the the technical lexicon in general, it's still highly useful to know when working in any of these.

Second, it is the language in which some of the best literature of all time was written, so if you want to read it in the original, there isn't much way around learning it.

The structures of the language fit many important thought patterns in logic (more than, say, English, or most other modern languages for that matter). They're also good for learning more about language works in general.

It'll make it easier to understand any latin-based languages, and give you insight into the etymological roots of words. It'll also be useful if actually studying ancient histories or texts.
