Ever since I was 16 I started thinking about death and the nothingness that will follow. I started thinking about the time before my birth, of course you don't exist and that period is absolute blank in your mind. I know that most people get over it, but I can't. If I start thinking about too much, imagining that last moment of life before I forget everything, before I just disappear makes my heart race. I start questioning life itself, why do we live, is there a purpose if it's all the same after you die? We are just complex chemical reactions, consciousness is just a property. There is no meaning to this world, even the Universe will disappear.
What do I do? This is actually damaging the quality of my life.

these are the oldest questions oft mankind. welcome to the part who's asking Them. you don't need to get over it. you already found out that this topic will accompany you for the Rest of your life. but don't worry, the flavour will change. it will also help you focus on what is really worth spending time with on this earth. for example when you get children you will get a feeling that there can be things that are more important to you than youself.
besides, how do you know that there was nothing before your birth, how do you know there's nothing after death? we will never know. hope for the best, keep an ear open for clues and enjoy the time inbetween.
Always remember you're not missing out, everybody, including everybody, will pass away eventually. Create a legacy - Bowie achieved auditory immortality.
