Anyway, turns out he likes me and me giving him that thing might have been the trigger. This is someone I see a couple times a week (shared class) and truth is I really like him back. But my life is completely fucked right now. I can't have a relationship. One of my parents is retired and just got diagnosed with cancer, and the other parent will very likely be laid off soon and the severance package is shit. I have no scholarships and will likely need to find a better part-time job. I suffer from depression and have been experiencing the return of suicidal thoughts in the past couple months. Basically, I am in no position to have a relationship because my life is a wreck right now. But I fucked up an gave this nice guy a gift and now he seems to have feelings for me (based on the way he now treats me, but he hasn't outright said it) and to be honest, I do want to be with him. He's great. But I would feel like such an asshole dragging someone into the shitstorm of my life just because I like them. It feels selfish and I don't want to fuck him up.
How should I proceed? When he flirts with me I want to flirt back, but I don't know if I should. Should I be mean to him so he goes away? I'm just really torn between wanting him to fuck off (better for him) or allowing him near me (which I want but isn't fair to him, and will eventually be very difficult for me)
Usually I'll ask my platonic friend how she's been or how her day was. I'm interested, so I'm happy to.
But what I really want to do this time is ask her to chill on Saturday where I'll ask her to begin dating.

I really don't know, I think she might be a little into me, but living with her and dating her are different, she's really not my type, she's really my best friend and the only person who was there for me in the darkest point of an already bleak life, it wasn't a friend zone sorta situation as much as we started out with a legitimate need for each other to survive, it's a little complicated.
