About two weeks ago, my computer started acting up. If I began to multi-task it would simply shut off so I took it apart and cleaned it out. While doing this, I noticed that a few of the capacitors were beginning to burst. I figured I'd use this as an excuse to get the parts for a new computer.
For your reference, the old computer's specs: HP a6230n
8GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce GT 520

The new computer's specs:
Case: Rosewill Galaxy 01 Gaming Case; $49.99
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-990FXA; $112
Graphics: EVGA GeForce GTX 950; $159.99
Sound Card: Creative SoundBlaster Zx PCIe Gaming Card; $87.14 (Sale Price)
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 16GB; $74.99
PSU:Rosewill RD600-M 600W PSU; $59.99
I'm also upgrading my monitor:
AOC I2269VW-B 22" Ultra-Slim IPS LED Monitor; $89.99
CPU: AMD FX-8350 Black Edition Vishera 8-Core 4.0 GHz; $169.99
Along with some other components, the price is $886
In short, I need to know if I'm making the right decision for the price I'm paying, since all the computers I've had beforehand were all partially upgraded hand-me-downs. Picture related, it's the case.

I say up the graphics card to a 970M/980. I have the 970M and it's amazing, though not sure how exactly it compares to the 950
Stick a GTX 970 in there and you've got a deal.

just get a mac so don't have to deal with windows.

I can't, my budget is too tight.

I'm not a Mac person. I've not upgraded before, I'm also not computer illiterate.

Try getting an nvidia 740 or 760 in your graphics card anon.

Several questions about this build:
1. Why are you buying a sound card? Unless you're a severe audiofile there is almost no point. The sound card on the motherboard is more than adequate for most people.
2. Why so much RAM? Did you plan on doing a lot of RAM heavy tasks like video editing on this? 8GB is fine if you need to trim money down.
3. Is there a reason you went with an AMD processor? While they have more cores, you'll typically get better gaming performance from an Intel processor.
4. The PSU looks questionable. Try to look for ones that are at least Bronze certified.
Try something like this:

This is assuming you're mostly using it to game, it'll blow the shit out of what you had built.

Sound card is pointless unless you're obsessed with music, motherboards generally have good enough on-board sound.
16GB is fine, you probably won't use much of it now, but games are starting to use more and more RAM so it can't hurt. Ram is cheap anyway.
I would get a better GPU but that's just me, 950 won't get you very good graphics quality.
Definitely do not get an AMD processor. Not worth the saved money. Go for an AMD GPU instead if you're on a budget, they're still good unlike the processors.

>soundcard
stop
dont
dont get an 8350 either

8 gigs of ram is considered small now. That's base specs for the oculus.
