I have the exact opposit reaction.
What I like on transformation is how the character is translated to the opposite sex. The character has to face that "Oh shit I turned into a woman", instead of "Oh shit, I bacame another person!".
Your identity is conected to your "base" form, so when its turned into the opposite sex, these small similaritties ends up highlighting the transformation and hit closer home for the characters subjected to it.

They all are aware that they were once guys, but the wish makes them don't care about this little detail, probably because it makes easier for them to get with Carter. Also, Carter is also probably the only man than they would have any romantic interest.
You can check on other comics some clues regarding it, like Diana mocking Carter when he says that he can't wait to show his harem to Dylan, or when Ryana comments on how many girls she had sleep with. Ironially, the only one who doesn't have any idea is Carter.
On this serie, while the characters retain their memmories and mostly of their personalitty, the transfirmation makes them have the manneirims and preferences that they would have, if they were born as girls.
Chase for example tried to be the mold for the "all american boy". Because of that, his female counterpart follows a similar path that leads to a different destination, for example, she is less of a soccer player and more of a cheerleader. Of course some traces are still present, like the hot headness and the competitive spirit, aaaaand her ongoing rivalirity with Ryan.
I think that in order from most different, to most similar, it would be:
Chase/Chelsea, Ming/Mei, Dylan/Diana, Colin/Chloe, Ryan/Ryane.
But I also comtempled on how it would be changing this order...
