I'll try my best to explain it, also I'm going to assume you have photoshop.

1. Using the wand tool, select around the object.
2. Next press ctrl+shift+i. (I don't know the keyboard shortcut for Mac)
3. Now go in the Select tab, go in Modify and click Expand.
4. You can put any number you want, but I went for 4 in this picture.
5. Make a new layer; now in the new layer fill it in however you like.
Lastly deselected the image (you can press ctrl+d) and there you go. Hope I did a good enough explanation and thought you something new.
