Yeah 5 is basically a redone 3 but much better. It's only a journey across one country though, but it's done well. The first half of 6 is kind of like 4 but with more mystery and the second half involves breaking out of prison and trying to make it to Cape Canaveral in 3 days with the cops and Stand users on their asses. Part 7 is a reboot and it's about a race across the entire North American continent, West Coast to East Coast over 6000km. It's the most journey like by far. 8 is still currently running in Ultra Jump but it's sort of similar to 4 in that it's set in Morioh but it's in the same continuity as Part 7, it's basically the Part 2 of the new series. It's VERY mystery driven but it's done so well and the writing is so good that it pulls you in in a comlpetely different but equally compelling way.

Slice of life isn't inherently bad, especially not when it's filled with charismatic characters, interesting stands and unique, creative situations like part 4 is. And, as you've been told, the main villain is coming up and he's basically as entertaining as Dio with a better stand.

This is one of the worst things about part 3 and some other parts for me. Constant pursuit with no down time gets kind of tedious and tiring to read, most long running series mix it up but Jojo tends to stick with it for entire parts at a time. The whole premise of DiU is the general life of a town if say 2% of the population had superpowers, what would they do? That makes it a bit Monster of the week because it's seeing what people chose to do. Even through that though, there was a degree of an arc in that they were chasing Red Hot Chilli Pepper.
Come back in a week or so, as the main villain hasn't even appeared yet, which is when the real plot starts to develop and becomes the backbone of the part for the remainder.
In this part, there is a lot more actual progression to the story of defeating the villain, a lot of the heroes trying to figure out more about him to fight, rather than say Part 3 where people come and fight them as they head to egypt. That aspect is still there, but there's lots more about who the villain is and how the heroes can get him than previous installments.

I personally don't understand why is jojo even so popular, the only thing I really liked about it were the visuals, but before I watched or read any of it people hyped it so much I expected it to be really good, and I was deeply disappointed.
Part 1 and 2 were okay, but nothing extraordinary, most of the fights were not very interesting and some parts of it were weak. I really, really disliked part 3, absolutely hated the MC (jotaro) and I hated that obnoxious french fuck. I didn't like the episodic monster of the week format at all: they could have cut like half of the fights with stands and it would have been the same. Also there's the fact that most of the stands in the main cast were like specialized for combat yet most of the enemies they face off are assassins which they can't fight conventionally, thus rendering their stands useless. And the final fight was also really disappointing , for me the only interesting thing about part 3 were the d'arby brothers. I dropped part 3 multiple times before I could finish it.
I didn't like part 4 either. The characters didn't seem that interesting, there's barely any plot progression most of the time; the pacing just feels wrong. They spend so much time with those combats that aren't even interesting; I don't get the appeal of those, they're really boring. And the villain didn't even seem particularly interesting.
I ended up dropping it halfway through part 5, on that combat of the girl that has a controllable plane fights against the guy who can make things small. I just couldn't bear to read it anymore. So boring.

Dio got pimpslapped in every single fight of Part 1, especially that last battle at his castle. It was completely one sided.
DIO was saved for the very end of Part 3, where he got less of a body count than Vanilla Ice, and lost 1 on 1 to a teenager who just so happened to capture DIO's favorite trick in a less effective way.

The fights are creative, the powers are creative (part 6 post prison escape will forever have some of the craziest and best fights in the series), the antagonists even some of the minor ones are creative and interesting, the endings are blood bathes and crazy as fuck besides the 3rd ending and arguably the 5th. Parts 1 and 2 were wild rides that were horribly written (but still fun as fuck) outside of Dio and Jonathan's relationship and Whammu's fight.
It's characters are also surprisingly well written starting with part 4 where Araki was finding his groove, continued with part 5 in which he found his sweet spot with battles, themes and backstory continued again in Part 6 in which he... I can't even begin to describe it and finally part 7 in which he made the pinnacle of everything JoJo. Fantastic character development for everyone, fantastic fights, fantastic art and a fantastic plot.
Basically, it's a classic that's only gotten immensely better as time went on.

It's because he's a memeable, crazy, charismatic, egotist who is just incredibly fun to watch and hate. He literally is the most entertaining thing on panel or screen every time he's on the screen or panel.
As a character he's not that good though, just really entertaining. Dionosaur is best Dio though.

I legitimately envy people who haven't read Part 4. There are so many great arcs coming up.
OP is bait, but it is true that part four is the weakest. Plot isn't compelling, Josuke is the boringest Jojo and I don't really like the supporting cast. Most sidestrories are mildly fun but offer with very little larger hype moments. It's all so forgettable, except Tonio, who's objectively perfect. Also the slow change from old to new artstyle is awkward. I know, it'll be fun in the last fifth, when stuff gets crazy. But i'm generally just waiting part 5 which should be fucking great from start to finish.

The explanations that are given in the show make much more sense in the manga where the panel you are reading lasts for as long as you're reading it. Assuming you don't have dyslexia or aren't a drooling moron they don't last nearly as long as they do in the anime where VAs need to read out the text clearly and in the character's voice.
