To be fair that was literally the only reasonable assumption that we COULD make before the last chapter. It was pushed pretty hard that one of the parents has to take the curse but that that wasn't a rule just tradition and that Norisuke was planning on taking Tsurugi's curse if Kira's search for a cure failed. It makes it seem like he was deliberately trying to make Kaato seem dead and buried or at least irrelevant to the scenario. I could actually see him trying to make the younger kids think she was dead. He's definitely hiding something that went on between them that involved curing Jobin with a different method, but if they aren't willing to do it for Tsurugi and Kaato went on to do 15 years in prison and seemingly has it out for her husband then whatever they did was too heavy or fucked up to try doing again.

I think she'll be important like a secondary villain but that Jobin is gonna be the main villain. He was introduced earlier and has had the slow build up to whatever sinister shit he has planned. Kaato may not even know about him and the Rock Humans and may literally just be out for herself and want Norisuke dead or something. Only time will tell but I don't see her being the main villain just yet. She's only been in half a chapter so far. I know it is the biggest cliche now, people calling every single villain we see in Part 8 the main villain, but the matriarch of the family the part is based around really does seem one of the best candidates yet. What Joubin has going for him more is that Kira like quality of him already seemingly having the odds heavily stacked against him, the way he was sweating and freaking out in his car after discovering that Damo died.
Either would be pretty fucking cool. I like the idea of a female main villain a lot, but Joubin definitely had the most [menacing] and memorable introduction of any character so far.

Kyo pieced it together pretty quickly and she didn't even know what Kira was up to from what we know. Norisuke probably thought of it ages ago but wasn't sure until Damo showed up and basically said it was true. He said he let Josuke into his house in the hopes that some of Kira's memories would still be in there so he knew he was at LEAST part Kira. If Kira and Norisuke were actually working together and not just acquaintances or Norisuke was stalking him then he'd know for sure that Kira fused with someone as soon as he saw Josuke. The underground room where Yotsuyu first showed up had some of Kira's clothes in it so I'd assume they knew each other and that Norisuke knew about exchange fusions. This so much, holy shit. I've always been torn between Gyro and Okuyasu. But Gyro is definitely the main character (or let's say a half of the main character duo) in his arc, so his status as brojo could be debatable. Gyro is probably the closest character to be a JoJo without being an actual JoJo.

While Gyro definitely had an awful lot of importance and focus to start with, the story really shifted towards Johnny after a while. Gyro became a supporting character to Johnny rather than the other way around, which it had briefly been.
Meanwhile, Polnareff actively seemed to usurp Jotaro's position as main character, having (at least to me) more of a character arc, more character-development, more dialog and more focus.

Because zombies and vampires are essentially a more asshole version of the original person. DIO was unaffected because he was already a huge asshole. Kakyoin wouldn't be able to control himself as a vampire plus he needs to stay out of sunlight and drink blood all the time. Why would Jotaro want that? Kakyoin wouldn't want a t either. Also DIO, being an asshole, wouldn't ever stoop low enough bargain with someone who bested him. Valentine wanted to secure his future with the Corpse and bargained with Johnny. And Johnny is far more morally loose (and anally loose) than Jotaro, it's kind of his big thing. Also his new Gyro wouldn't be an uncontrollable monster, unless Valentine brought back a Gyro like that (which he wouldn't because he was never going to replace Gyro anyway, it was a ploy to lower Johnny's guard).

Not necessarily. We've only seen a handful of vampires in the series - there's that guy Dio turned while drunk, Dio himself, Straights, Vanilla Ice and Nukesaku. While all of them were shown to be pretty aggressive, they also had situational reasons to be - first-guy had just been attacked and had his friend killed, and Dio and the others were out for blood from the start. We don't know what effect vampirism would have on more moral/less pissed-off character.
And some of the zombies were definitely mindless and beyond all hope (like that unfortunate mother who lost all maternal ties to her baby and ate him) but others seemed perfectly sentient, like Bruford and that army guy who ended up becoming a general. While the latter was still dangerous and wound up killing George II when he'd learned his secret, it shows that being zombified doesn't necessarily make you turn into a mindless beast.
