So at the end of the manga, Yuma has no xyz monsters again. That's kinda sucky. Astral defeated Yuma who he let use Utopia for the duel and really did go back to the Astral World and Yuma's parents were never heard from again. They didn't even do the thing GX and 5D's did where they show the characters their alternate animeverse selves. Zexal's manga was pretty lazy, almost as lazy as 5D's.
The weirdest thing is that DM got special manga chapters for the movie, GX got special manga chapters for the hero structure deck and 5D's got special manga chapters for Red Demon/Stardust shilling but Zexal gets nothing. No structure deck, no special manga chapters. It's amazing.

Like, we all assumed it was shun's concern for Reira acting as foreshadowing from 53 to 82.
But, based on this image of him giving Yuya a slight smile in 78, after the Dennis duel but before the Crow duel.
I'm wondering if the whole "I HAVE NO COMRADES" tirade was actually him trying to convince himself of it rather than a blanket declaration due to his paranoia.

Sora developed almost completely on-screen as we saw for 40 eps with his friendships with Yuya/Yuzu, his wavering during his battle with Yuya, and the fact that he (an arrogant little shit) completely dropped the mission to get Selena, stared dumbstruck and immediately went to academia when he heard that Yuzu was taken instead, even though Selena was right in front of his eyes.
Yuya's development makes perfect sense considering his character and unless you're complaining about him flipflopping (something he's been doing since the start because he lacks confidence), I can't imagine what you consider off about it.
Yugo certainly could use forward development, but him just being a happy-go-lucky guy with a developed backstory is alright given his role isn't too big.

His development wasn't "phenomenal" but he is certainly the best developed character in the whole show. He's introduced as an immature kid in Standard. Then in Synchro he takes his Entame for granted and tries to btfo Jack only to get btfo himself. Then he goes to his hotel room and starts crying for a long time. Putting him in the hotel room and letting him cry for like 20 episodes was stupid. After he gets out he starts to recover and eventually shows Jack and the whole Synchro dimension his Entame duel. He shows his growth as he doesn't take what he has for granted and realizes he needs to focus on what's truly important. So leaving Synchro we have a supposedly "wiser" Yuya who's calm, cool, and collected. Then XYZ happens and all of a sudden he thinks he's the shit and is EGAOing left and right showing off all his nice acrobatics and has succeeded in completely dominating the Commander of the XYZ area like it's nothing. It seems like a sudden leap in characterization and is inconsistent too because he's too overconfident in his ability to convince others EGAO is right. His character seems like it goes backwards and forwards at times.

Yes no series is free of perfect pacing but it hurts Arc-V even more because it is the first series to have an overarching plot that is not limited to self-contained arcs.

You seriously think Roger was amazing? I mean he was amusing sure, but he wasn't a very well written villain. We got basically 0 backstory for him and little to no information on what his motivation for betraying Academia was. He's a missed opportunity that could've been used to give us more information on Leo and how Academia is so appealing to the citizens of Fusion since he was part of their organization.
Sergey was probably the only good villain even if was a minor pawn since he played his role well and was able to develop on his own in his duel with Jack. Everyone else is not so great.

>Duels
Yes each series has good and bad duels but with Arc-V it feels more and more like the show acknowledges its a shameless card commercial. Does Yuya need to play new Performapals in EVERY EPISODE? Furthermore, other than Reiji I see a serious lack of strategy from other duelists. They just sit on their boss monsters and play some backrow waiting for the opponent. This isn't DM or GX where the game was slower and there was less interaction with the opponent. There's no real rhythm or flow to the duels. The conveyance of the duelist's will hardly appears. The only duels I've been impressed with are: Sora v Shun, Gon v Yaiba, Yuya v Reiji II,Yuya v Jack II, and Yuya v Sawatari II. All the other duels were just bad in choreography and shilling.

Ok I'll cut some slack since DSOD took away good animators, but because of that I would hope the staff was smart enough to relegate the good animators to the final arc of the show. So from now on I better be seeing more consistent animation.
>Mysteries
Yes it's not a flaw per se, but it screams poor execution to me because it makes that much harder to answer all the mysteries and address all the relevant plot points in the last 30ish episodes of the show. There is less breathing room and the pace needs to be picked up more and I'm not sure the directing/writing can handle that.
Yuri should kill Edo and get the position of Commander already. He is the only believable villain besides Leo

Ok fair enough, Shun's development was spread out a lot so it's hard to remember where certain things happened and where he showed introspection and what not.
Well with Sora it's a very unorthodox development that doesn't sit well with me. Yes he's been through many experiences in Standard but near the end he supposedly throws all that away and leaves as an enemy. Then he just appears at the end of Synchro with a complete change of heart. Like you said, he needed better reflection of the actions. Yeah it's "development" but it sure as hell doesn't feel like it.

Regarding his XYZ development: He did show greater wisdom vs Kaito in how he realized that the entame he learned from Jack wouldn't work on someone with so much grief.
Vs Edo I he was trying to calmly get info rather than appeal with entame, so that gets a pass
Vs Tyler Sisters it didn't seem like he was trying to reach them at all and he didn't really make any claims to it either; in fact, he basically said he was doing entame to hold off hitotsu ni, so that showed greater awareness on his part
Vs Obelisk Force: here he was just being a cocky little shit thanks to his fight vs tyler sisters. There's no excuse that can really defend this one.
Vs Edo II: Edo reacting to EGAO and showing he kept smile world arguably justified it. Additionally, he started with the thing that built some vague solidarity in Synchro and vs Kaito; he summoned a monster of the same summon type as his opponent, which does show that he's still using the sort of strategies that he learned fighting Jack. As soon as Edo said he kept smile world since the start of his term in XYZ, it was obvious he was a prime entame target.
Regarding Yuya, you're right that he flipflops a fair amount.

Doesn't bother me as much; but, you're right about it hurting Arc-V due to the style of show it is.
>Villains
Well, with Roger, I was never too concerned with how much he developed, so it might be a difference of what we came to see. What I liked about him was that from start to finish it felt like he was a thoroughly competent villain based on how 90% of the arc is based around characters getting tripped up by his plans, which is more than I expected since usually YGO villains go more for the direct approach than a myriad set of plans. So, while "amazing" would honestly be a stretch, I really enjoyed every moment he was on-screen.

I do remember him showing that awareness but then right after that he said fuck it and tried to EGAO anyways.
Against Edo while he was a prime target, Yuya was just way too cocky in that second duel. All the smugness and the flips and twirls were kinda cheesy to watch. I mean yeah that's part of his whole schtick but it felt like it was turned up to 11. It seemed as though Yuya knew Edo was easy picking and just went in straight for the kill so full of himself.
Against Tyler sisters, eh it goes both ways. Originally he dueled them to protect Gon and Sawatari but as the duel progressed he took the opportunity to do his EGAO thing when he could've just beaten them without all the theatrics. It seemed to me he did this because he wants to show them their way of dueling is wrong and his is right.

Regarding this, I can't really argue. I don't agree with the notion that most of the duels fail to convey the duelist's will considering things like Crow/Shun, Yuya/Jack I, Reira/Jobbers, and Bees/Tsukikage since they all felt like ample extensions of the characters respective wills from my perspective.
However, I can certainly understand where someone would since the best duels absolutely stand out like a sore thumb compared to the rest.

How is it even suppose to happen? Yuya vastly outclasses Yuzu, he's got 4 fusions, 2 synchros and 1 xyz compared to her 3 fusions. On top of that Yuya has pendulum summon and Yuzu doesn't. The only way they could duel is if it comes down to Yuzu using her fusions while Yuya sticks only to his pendulum extra deck monsters.

Yuya vs Yuzu can't be the last Duel. Yuzu wouldn't even be able to survive 2 turns with Yuya as his opponent, he is too OP now. Also, Reiji is the rival of Yuya even if he doesn't have a lot of screentime. All MC needs to beat their rival at least once. Since a Yuya vs Reiji duel would feel totally stupid now, i expect it to happen in the end as the last duel showing how much Yuya has grown. Other duel that could happen is Yuya vs Yusho cause i think Ono said something about the last duel being an Entema Duel. Oh and don't forget that 5DS last duel was Yusei vs Jack
