The series is full of bullshit like this. You see, Naruto is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and DARKNESS. Each time, he was brought face-to-face with his older clone, and he had to make a choice between siding with the clone, or siding with Orochimaru. Both options led to failure, and the mind wipe. The final attempt, he awakens Sage Transformation and apparently moves fast enough to snag the scroll from Orochimaru's hand without him even knowing - using a fucking CHAKRA CLOAK - and then disappears into the night to read it.
