The thing is, we really don't know that much about Caesar and his past.
We know he had a rivalry with Vegapunk, which as a premise is frankly enough to have an entire arc around.
All it really takes to turn the SH crew around is a sob story about your tragic past.
Chopper is the only member of the crew I can see protesting Caesar joining in any capacity, after all, who joins the crew is ultimately only decided by Luffy.
But Chopper protesting Caesar joining could lead to funny gags and/or interesting subplots.
