Yeah, I miss when they literally explained Erza being able to sense her surroundings when she should have had no senses with "she's Erza", when they tried to boil a big issue like an entire world losing its source of energy down to a Saturday morning cartoon villain not being able to ride the merry-go-round anymore so that they wouldn't have to confront the idea that our main characters were likely choosing to kill millions so that they could live, and when the dragon arc was resolved by stopping things that didn't even happen in the future timeline.
Fairy Tail used to have such good writing. It had a great grasp on things like tension, world building, and continuity. Fairy Tail's world is little more than an excuse for guild wars, which typically involve bad guys chasing a lazily designed world ending macguffin. The "magic" system is also vague shit that basically does whatever Mashima wants it to do at the moment. Seriously, tell me something about FT's world that doesn't have anything to do with magic guilds taking jobs. For example, what do we know about the different regions of Fiore? Their history, culture, and politics? The only bit of actual world building that we've gotten was with the dragons, and they even fucked that up with horrible storytelling.
Magicians are also just FT's resident generic super powered martial artists. If you replaced "magician" with "fighter" and "magic" with "ki" (or whatever word you want to use for the energy system that's in a billion other manga), nothing would lead you to think that these characters are like wizards.

Devil fruits at least have restrictions, in that people who eat them can't enter water anymore (a big deal when you consider that most of One Piece takes place on boats or on a small island) and they will never acquire more powers. Sabo is not going to absorb lighting from Eneru and arbitrarily become a fire-lightning user. Instead, they develop on what their power can do. There are also rules for specific types of devil fruit user. For example, you can't hit logia types without either haki or some means to neutralize their element. When exceptions to the rules arise, they're well explained. The rules don't suddenly fall apart because Oda decides that he wants to be lazy.
By comparison, Fairy Tail's whole combat system is the epitome of generic and lazy, really not following any rules. It's not unique in trying to keep abilities diverse, either. It would be boring if every character did the same thing, so most super powered martial arts manga try to mix it up. Loads of them accomplish this by having the energy manifest into different things like fire or summoning and giving characters special armor and weapon abilities. Even characters who specifically breath and punch fire aren't really anything new.

How many of their homes are now in the middle of the ocean, underground, or in several places at once? Even in the most generous interpretation of what she just did, Fiore now can't possible sustain its population due to the loss of agricultural land and natural resources, and famine will set in shortly after the war if Alvarez doesn't steam the country now.

We don't even fucking know what "The Fairies of Origin" are, Zera is apparently one of them though. I'm sure we will learn more about what "Fairies" have to do with the series since the name of the series is called Fairy Tail and the guild is called Fairy Tail. Obviously Fairies have something to do with the plot, Zara might be a fairy but I think there were multiple fairies of origin.
We just don't know who they are or what their purpose is, perhaps they created the world? That would make them essentially Gods, I'm expecting another powerlevel spike asspull where Natsu or all the dragon slayers get God status and can one shot Zeref or something.
