So I had an idea for a Deku power-up, let me know how chuuni and retarded it is.
He can only handle 5%, and unless he goes into a hyperbolic chamber he'll never reach 100% in the series. So instead of mastering OFA's raw power, he learns to eject the energy from his body (that red electricity) behind him so it doesn't concentrate inside and crush his bones. Releasing the energy behind him, he'd get a big speed boost and ramming power, but would have an issue with more complicated movements because he can only burst forward in a straight line. He'd figure it out by mimicking Iida's quirk the same way he mimicked Bakugo's moves.
It'd be called the Burst Cowl.

He was badass from the moment he smashed in that villain's eye. Then a few episodes later he shatters a robot as tall as a skyscraper. Then endures the pain of shattering his own finger for one test. Then creates a plan to beat two heroes much stronger than him and Uraraka, and tanks breaking his own arm and a massive explosion head-on. Then he makes a plan and willingly breaks his fingers again to stop at least 8 villains. Then the tournament happens, and holy shit his fight with Ice/Fire guy.
Then everything else happened. Deku has always been badass.

Deku is a good protagonist because he's flawed, self-deprecating kid who can only make plans by gambling on his own health.
And even during those "badass" moments, he's still unsure and scared.
He is not a typical protagonist who shits out power-ups and is a happy-go-lucky fuck all the time except for the moments where plot drama can power him up later.
He gets called a badass thanks to the power of contrast. We know that Deku can and will eat shit. But experiencing how much he can do before that happens is what making Deku an interesting character.
