To my fellow men of good taste about SBR not living up to the hype before the first thread was baleeted.
I probably would have enjoyed it just as much if I had no expectations. It didn't have anything to do with characters not being what I'd hoped or anything, it was more about the pacing. Things dragged out for too long. I think it was due to Araki switching over to monthly half way through. It felt like despite the chapters being four times as long, he still felt the need to make fights five to ten chapters long.
It might have been fine if you were reading it monthly and craving for more JoJo every month, but reading it all at once really made it feel like it was drawn out. He seems to have fixed this with JoJolion so far, though. I'm reading what's out so far all at once and I'm not getting the same vibe.

There was a flashback recently where we see how Josuke came to be and some stuff Josuke says early on is pretty much direct foreshadowing. Like when the naked woman in the dub goes underwater completely and he talks about how he really doesn't like being underwater and in the flashback when he was like 5 his mother almost left him to drown, and when Yotsuyu kidnaps Yasuho he says although he doesn't have his memories he somehow knows that Yotsuyu is the kind of guy who targets women to use as hostages and in the flashback he uses Karera as a hostage and holds her from behind in a really sexual looking manner. There's actually a lot of small things like this that make it seem like Araki hass actually planned this one out.

Not that anon, but I really don't think that Valentine was a great villain. He was boring as fuck, characterless, and just a generic mastermind from the shadows. He might as well have been DIO and it would have made no difference. The reason why valentine's character is seemingly non existent is because he technically not just one person. Every time he nearly dies he switches with a parallel version and how parallels work is that they aren't guaranteed to be exactly like the original. Well Joseph was supposed to be the spitting image of his grandfather, the hair was meant to be the tell, but Araki doesn't draw hair like he used to and they both end up looking like t hey have curly heads.
