The Zodiacs were Netero's sparring partners, so he and Ging must have fought plenty of times. For Netero to consider him a top 5, his fights with Ging must have been pretty heated especially when Netero takes his fighting very seriously.

I guess we technically don't know what he fought there, but it seems likely he'd have encountered at least a B there and defeated it.
To be fair he would probably have the best understanding of the actual dangerousness of the calamities, and they were ranked Bs under his chairmanship.
I like the idea of Meruem being an A while Chimera Ants being a B overall because they they're relatively easy to deal with in their early stage, despite their incredible growth potential.

As a whole, Ants were a B rank, rather easy but tricky ones.

I think personally the entire point of the arc was that Mureum was NOT a threat at all.
As the plot progresses he begins to feel human emotions, and by the end of the arc he has morals and feelings, and he can't handle it.
The point of the plot is that of tragedy. Mureum would have, if encountered good people from the start, been able to make a home for the chimera ants and they probably would have been able to peacefully coexist with humans, much like how the remaining few currently are.
The final ants are all very human, and thats what makes the whole arc so sad at the end. Mureum died before he had the chance to become good.
It's just a giant catch-22 and its very depressing, very well written. Not many large scale arcs like the Chimera Ants in a show have evoked such strong emotions in me.

I don't know if the nuke would stop him during that mode, he's pretty beefed up and we don't get much of an idea of just how strong he is.

The lady says that the max rating on the published list is C, which means the most dangerous wild animal you will encounter is a C.
A~B are reserved for, effectively speaking, Nen users. If it can't use Nen it has no chance of breaching B or A.
So the convo seems to imply that A and B are common knowledge rankings, its just that encountering something ranked A or B is ultra rare.
A is reserved for Kaiju level threats then, anything that one nuke couldn't take down. Or a multi person threat, like the spiders.
Since an individual spider is probably a B, but the spiders are a group of individuals, so obviously one nuke wouldnt kill them all since they are spread out.
So I imagine S rank is the secret one. A and B seem to be common knowledge to anyone who knows whats up.
But S rank is something even hunters don't really know about unless they are deep into the system. IE members of the zodiac and etc, very knowledgeable people.
S ranks probably are never mentioned and are assigned, unlike A or B which can just be picked up from people. S rank is a "you are going to go do this, and you have no choice in the matter"
Effectively, S rank is probably something kept under wraps, and dealt with in a manner that no one ever even knew it existed in the first place.

People are tempted to venture deep into the forest during the day "hah this isn't so bad" and then the sun sets and they never make it back.

I think Hisoka and Chrollo will continue to have fights over time but the next one only has 4 abilities he is using, then 3 etc etc.each time Hisoka gets more fucked up over time after each fight and gets stronger but still fails while killing off spider members in between.
At the last fight Hisoka is pretty much more nen then human and Chrollo only uses 1 abiltiy this time but after a short fight and Hisoka's nen weakening due to his shattered mental state (seeing Chrollo only use one barely combat suitable ability really put a toll on his mind) weakening his nen body. Then Chrollo finishes him off after dispelling the one nen ability and beats Hisoka to death while morning the loss of his crew and Hisoka's state and gives him a warriors farewell. Chrollo then moves on to target the Chain user to finish off what little he has left to do in his little time left in the mortal world.
