Military tech does not make sense in ML. They have fucking moonbases in the 60's, so you'd think that their jet tech would have been insane by the time that TSFs were introduced, but you look at their other military hardware, and it's the same shit if not worse then what we used in RL.
Even had the military tech lagged before the BETA (excepting TSFs and power armor), you'd still expect it to be way ahead of the RL by the 80's rather then comparable, as we were never fighting a war of extinction against aliums and technology tends to make huge leaps when nations are pushed like they are in ML.
As for your question, we'd have to wait on BiS translations, as Jurgen was a fighter pilot before being picked to go train on TSFs.

That would tell us what the last WP plane to be introduced was but not which was the top of the line before laser-kun showed up.
The Tech inconsistencies are beyond the PA and TSFs not that jarring. Its like all the bizarre RL projects got unlimited budgets instead of being canned. Which should have actually been expanded into the TSF area as quite a number of 3. Gen fighter designs were canned due to lack of funding or cheaper imports. More Phantom and Freedom Fighter derivates with more varied design philosophies would be nice.

I think it's funny that Beatrix, Iris, and Lise are probably the only three that most people care about. They're the only ones who seem to get merchandise and the ones being used for advertisement purposes, even with the how Katia focused the anime was.

What has been bothering most lately, is how the anime merchandize likes to use the Iris/Beatrix rivalry, while they downplayed one into almost being irrelevant and turned the other into a fucking caricature of evil that pisses the original fans off and makes the others hate her to the point that they defend Axmann of all people. Hell, even Axmann has more positive characteristics than Beatrix in the Anime.
Are they truly so blind to what they have done? Is the paying fanbase so loyal that it doesn't harm them their sales?

Yeah, but by every metric, Katia isn't even that popular compared to the others. Her personality, her character arc, her history, her character conflicts, and her design just aren't as interesting as any of the other girls. The others have much larger hurdles and much more internal conflict then Katia. Here's the deal with idealistic characters, you got to put them through hell.
Show them going through some really fucked up shit, and make them question their idealism. Show them evolve into a more wise, but still very idealistic individual, or show them breaking down from all the bad shit. That's how you make them interesting.
Using Katia as the main girl is like deciding to use someone like Asia to be the face of DxD.

Recently, Pham has been trying online dating, and tonight she has a date with a man she met there. After all these years, Farka is stll codependent and still has nightmares, and so she's staying with you for the night. Luckily, having Farka over has its benefits. Right now, her ass is thrust in the air, her hands are tied behind her back, and her face is getting pressed into Lise's pubic mount. She's...okay, slightly cute, but a little bland. Overall, not bad. Certainly, not as interesting as a beautiful and personable girl like Anette, but not a walking shitpiece.

Colorado City is just inside Arizona and is the main base of support for the FLDS.
Salt Lake City is the capital of Utah, which outlawed polygamy as part of the transition to becoming an American State.
The Fundamentalist Latter Day Saints follow Brigham Young's teachings on polygamy, which is to say, they support it, while the Latter Day saints, who are the Mormon Mainstream, banned and suppressed polygamy.

Well I mean it's pretty obvious, isn't it? Yes, superficially, and in their present attitudes, him and Theo are vastly different, but really, Jurgen is who Theo would have been if fate had been kinder to him. Theo still ultimately believes in right, even if at the start of SM, he's incredibly bitter and desensitized.
I know some anon said it, but why do you think Irisdina kept Theo around in the 666th? Granted he is quite talented at TSFs, and that he's survived a year or more of constant battle is testament to that, but his attitude problems and negligence and even fratricide by inaction could have let Iris shift him to a training batallion long ago. Yeah, Beatrix promised Lise she'd bring Theo to her, but why do you think she herself as an interest in him?
It's kind of sad for Theo, in a way. To at least Iris, and likely Beato, he's just a chip, a pawn, another chess piece in their game. Part of, to me at least, one of SM's themes in Martyrs will be each of them recognizing Theo in his own right rather than as an expy of Jurgen.

There were never a ton of Phamfags. Yes there were people who adored her, but few ever waifued her. To waifu her is to take on her struggle, her feelings, the burdens of her heart, to see through her eyes. To do that, it takes extreme tolerance for hurt, for pain.

I think a lot of you guys are over-attributing the power both Axmann and Beatrix have at the start and middle of the VN. They lead significant factions, yes, but they answer to people above them.
Sending a spy to the 666th was Schmidt's personal project, it wasn't Beatrix's. Beatrix was very, VERY against Lise going - it was Lise who begged Beatrix to put her name forward to command. Beatrix knew Lise would have a crisis of loyalties and conflicts, and having her brother involved would just be a giant wildcard. But Beatrix promised Lise long ago she'd reunite the two, and Lise pulled that card, so she had to relent.
Also unlikely is that executing a spy would result in the 666th getting purged - the NVA would cover for them saying they had to take action in case it was a Western spy, and that it was the Stasi's fault for not telling them. And then the Party would also back them up. At that time, the Stasi wouldn't be able to do much if both other organs drew a line in the sand.
I like the idea that the anon put forward for a possible Beato route, that Bea comes around again with her squadron and first goes on and on about the shit they're in, but offers a way out by saying that Theo come with her and join the Werewolves.

But that was always the plan. Well, worse in a way that they'd be without one of their prized pilots, especially a melee fighter. However the 666th isn't stranger to losing pilots - Inghilde died only a short time ago, and three of their pilots died only a week before SM even begins.
How it bears relation to the later civil war though remains unknown - especially since Irisdina may try to shuffle her cards better (since she's well aware the Stasi will strike soon), and more of the squadron was able to escape the hammer coming down on them after the coup.
Of course, it would be utterly devastating for us, the viewers, and Theo, because he will have to fight the people he grew to love and care for, his old squadron. It'd be Theo this time facing the impossible burden of divided loyalties, especially if he's had a bunch of time under Beatrix's wing by the time the coup rolls around, and he falls in love with her, and forms close bonds with his comrades in the Werewolves.
And you know they'd love to stick the knife into our heart and twist it a bit by making Theo have to engage and possibly even kill some of his old teammates.I don't even think my heart can handle the pain of Theo having to face Pham.

No, it's mostly that Theo had decided that he was going to kill Beatrix Brehme and present her head on a platter to Iris and Katia. He wasn't interested in her and Iris's background. In fact, he probably wouldn't want to know beyond "Iris did it for a good reason" and "Beatrix is nothing more then a jealous monster" because that's the truth he is most comfortable with. Theo doesn't want facts, he wants validation. Though it backfired in the form of a CIWS to the gut, Theo's ignorance by choice and fanatical loyalty is ironically what Beatrix and the stasi wanted from East Germany's populace.

There's a lot I have issue with in this, but I'll focus on that Theo's ignorance by choice is what Beatrix wanted, or even the fanatical loyalty. She in fact hated how utterly ignorant so many of her fellow citizens were, how kept in the dark they were about how the war was going. As for loyalty, she wanted loyalty to mankind's war against the BETA, more than the state. The all-state was merely a tool for that - to focus on fighting the BETA, and nothing else. Her loyalty to communism, or to the GDR was completely nonexistent, she utterly hated them both. Even German unity (Katia's crusade) or East German/Pan-German nationalism (seemingly Iris' great issue) didn't matter to her at all. She believed in humanity, and the that this war was was not only for human survival, but human freedom.
Again though, I suppose that resposne was to nitpicking in the show, and I think that can be safely discarded, since it's a clusterfuck anyways.

Not really. Well the factories are running overtime and stuff, but there's no real sense of urgency. In the novels, Beatrix remarks once while in Berlin, how people are just meandering, going about their daily lives oblivious to what is coming down on them. I think for example, she noted that in a park kids were playing in, there had been a TSF crash earlier in the week. It was noteworthy since the government had that mess cleaned in a hurry, to emphasize normality.
Basically, the factories are running, but most of the citizens don't know how precarious their position at the Seelow Heights is. They know they're in a war, they know casualties are being taken a lot, they know the military is mobilized, but they don't know how desperate things are. Hence one more reason why the Evacuation later is a clusterfuck. A lot of people didn't even know why they were being told they have to leave, and those few fortunate or unfortunate enough to find out are running, panicking, turning evacuation into even more of a mess.

Well certainly Beatrix already "knows" many of the players in the 666th. She knows Walther for goodness sakes, and he her - very well. Beatrix wasn't even a big functionary then. Hell, at the start of SM, she's decently high up in the Stasi, but she's still not even under Schmidt. Considering Martin wasn't even purged, this is actually a point against Beatohaters.
Also, considering Gretel is in training for being in the commissariat (being a Party functionary) around this time, it's obvious Beatrix would know who she is. Likewise, Gretel would pretty much have free access on everyone's files.
On a side note, it should be borne in mind that in the past, the Stasi was not the most powerful faction in the government - the Party was. The Stasi was actually the weakest arm, and the NVA and Stasi were extremely friendly and worked to defend each other from Party purges and the like. It's hard to see by SM's time, where Gretel basically loses all authority by the time of the coup, but in the past, her word would have been ironclad law. Well, even more than it is when SM starts (bear in mind, she's the only other one that has a command Mig-21, and can remotely drug or kill the other pilots, and slave their TSFs to hers - which she threatens to do more than once). Back then, the Party didn't really NEED it's own forces - besides, they had their commissars in the NVA, and their control over Stasi heads. But if they needed it, they had the Soviet Army occupational forces at their beck and call.
The Party losing it's powers is a very recent thing in SM's timeline, as it only really began when the NVA was allowed to expand, thanks to the BETA War, and then when the BETA cut the Soviet Union in two, cutting off the Warsaw Pact vassal states from their masters in Moscow.

There are about 20 soviet divisons in East Germany alone in 5 armies that can form 2 fronts. A soviet Front is similar to a NATO army group.

These troops were not only tasked with looking good in germany but also keeping the DDR in line. Now there may be some concerns about how to resupply these soviet forces or rebuild them from combat loses but there is a very simple solution to this. They are simply not used 24/7 as a frontline force but as reserve force or plugging any hole on the frontline that may collapse meaning they retain their strenght since they are not fighting all the time like the NVA. This will mean that they will take a similar role that current stasi have when it comes to fighting. And they use same equipment as the NVA overall so no problem here either.

Everyone here knows about Group of Soviet Forces, he's saying past tense is because those troops, or rather the few who had to flee west with the Pact forces are stuck there. I think it was mentioned they're actually integrated into the host military if I recall, same way fallen Poland remnants have been integrated.

It does not matter if the operation happend. They will still exist in a form that will not be overpowerd by their host nation. At worse case they may be down to 50% of their original strenght and they will not retreat east since that would mean they will lose control of the warsaw pact.
There is also the problem with the seperation since that would mean that the warsaw pact would lose their main supplier of heavy equipment and support, the soviet union. East Germany produced only small arms, trucks and electronics while poland and other warsaw pact nations had some factories for tanks and heavier equipment but it is not on the same level as the soviets. Only way for the east germans having ability to support themself (and warsaw pact in whole) is that they built their own factory in large scale or the soviets moved their own factorys and in particular the factorys of kharkov located in Ukraine into east europe since they certainly would not somehow expect being seperated from their vassal states right? It is also logical (when it comes to kharkov) considering that most T-64's produced was located in the GSFG and the factories of kharkov were the main builders of the T-64. It would also explain why East Germany even have T-64's (when they should not actually have them).
Either way the cannot allow the destruction of the GSF since they are one of the most importent elements in securing control over the warsaw pact and it is not impossible to supply them considering that soviet MiG-23 and MiG-27 somehow got transported to East Germany.

For one, most of the Soviet forces stationed in the Pact flat out DIDN'T MAKE IT back. Many of them died, and most Pailogos forces managed to retreat the way they wanted to (considering NATO also participated in the campaign, and none of their forces were trapped on the other side) before they were cut off. The Soviet Union is NOT going to jeapordize it's own existence to keep Eastern Europe under it's heel, and they had already lost so many forces not only since the BETA landing at Kashgar, but in the Pailogos campaign that they couldn't sustain such a deployment in Eastern Europe. On top of that, the Soviets lifted the restrictions they had placed on the vassals, since they frankly needed every body possible. This IS after all the campaign that made General Strachwitz famous.
So at most we have a few token, battered forces from the USSR that at the last minute got trapped on the western side of the front, and so had to retreat that way. They have no choice but to be under host command.
By the time of SM, the Pact is basically a bunch of communist states, without actually being under Soviet control. But being communist still, they won't work with the West. That won't magically go away, and with a threat like the BETA, they have much less hesitation to shoot their own people to maintain power.
Obviously the Soviets are going to give their vassals their specifications for equipment, and obviously the Pact nations are going to build them. They're still close. All of the Pact's stuff at this point (Schwarzesmarken's start) is domestic manufacture, even the 23s. The 27s are the only direct stuff from the USSR.
Delivering a few TSFs by boat is not a big logistical feat. Trying to supply corps hundreds of kms away is much harder, and outside Soviet naval capacity.
