Why do hollywood anime-adapted movies always make new stupid scripts? Just use some shit from the anime or movies and move on to making the outfits look as close as possible to the characters.
Next make sure the actors take their job seriously and you have a fine adaptation. It'll still be inferior to the original (nothing will surpass the source material of any media) but it's serviceable.

Ghost In The Shell is what I consider the best anime movie ever made, and its my personal favorite anime, and probably in my top 3 of any type of Media.
Mamoru Oshii just works his magic. The Action is brief but good, the story is slower paced, but not dragging. I think of him as Kubrick-esque, but better. The Resident Evil movies are the biggest exception to the Hollywood rules ever. Female protagonist, R rating, and video game adaptation are usually a kiss of death on their own. You know how they keep making more of these? They're cheap as fuck to make and no one takes them seriously enough, equalling decent profit margins. It's like Happy Madison films. They're terrible, everyone knows they're terrible but they still watch them in record numbers. GitS will fail for two reasons. Merica produced Blade Runner in the 80's. One of the greatest movies ever created. Neuromancer came out a month or two after that. Created the Cyberpunk genre.
GITS took both of those and basically just ripped ideas and characters (Molly and Armitage mostly) out of it.
