So, chapter 112 korean scanlation is out, and it's more Musashi masturbation.

I wonder if the conversation with Gaia brought anything new to the table.

So since this series seems to have finally dropped the whole schtick about unarmed combat being the only acceptable form of violence, are we going to see any highly trained fighters who use guns in the future? It seems like a natural progression.
>>
>>142516279
Nah. Fighting on the streets and in the ring are completely different animals. It's not unusual for a champion boxer or wrestler to get beaten into shit without rules. Even by children if said children have, for example, a knife - this happened in Iran some years ago, iirc.

Or that Russian Olympic wrestler who got stabbed at a party. Or the great Russian hope in boxing getting beaten almost to death by unknown people in Berlin. And let#s not forget the BJJ "master" who got into jail for kiddie fucking and got beaten, stabbed and raped there..

And vice versa, it's the same: A good streetfighter usually makes for a shitty boxer/wrestler and is really no good in the ring.

Just different animals. People have written about that since antiquity, too. So it's nothing new.
>>
>>142520519

>>142520806
Motobe thinks "the fight against Musashi" in principle is his responsibility, as he's the only one who has bothered to study the ancient Japanese martial arts. He believes that those old arts are important to preserve, and now he's got an opponent on which to test them/test their historical veracity. He's also trying to reconcile the old arts with the new arts, which is why he refuses to let anyone die, and is why he's trying to teach each fighter that the old arts give him an advantage.

It's the only part of the anime that I ever feel drawn back to watch again. I just love that fight, and I love Shibukawa's VA. I can't think of anyone else who could have perfectly embodied that mix of old age and bloodlust.

That being said: let's say New Grappler Baki is being adapted. Who do you hire to voice Kaku, and who do you hire to voice Oliva? Hardmode: you can't pick Sergio Oliva for Oliva.

Personally, I'm thinking more of a comical voice for Oliva. While he is a psychopathic murderer, he's also portrayed super comically - the Jeff scene, the delivering-Sikorsky bit, him being dragged around by a finger by Shibukawa. That being said, I kinda think Jouji Nakata could do him justice. I think he's got it in him to do a little jokey-ness.

Almost entirely, I think.
Doppo had the perfect amount of gruffness. Shibukawa sounded exactly like I imagined him in my head. Tokugawa sounded like Tokugawa. Chiharu was beyond perfect.

I would change Yuujiro's VA, and *maybe* Retsu's. Yuujiro didn't sound hostile enough, and Retsu just sounded kinda weird. I think the latter might just be me, though.
>>
>>142531406
I'm not too much into seiyuus, but how about Rikiya Koyama for Yujiro? He can sound a lot more evil than Takamura, as shown in Ushio to Tora.
>>
>>142530253
I think it reflects on the state of the industry that Baki isn't getting any sort of adaption anymore despite it's supposed popularity

Jojo's is one of the most influential series in Japan period, and that period of 5 years means quite a lot back then

This is beside the point, Jojo is ONE series amid a sea of young adult light novel/visual novel trash and easily consumable battle shonen that dominates an entire medium nowadays. There's a pathetic lack of diversity and risk taking and a very rigid, defined status quo.

He destroyed the Tae Kwon Do guy (I think), Shibukawa, and almost *killed* Baki in Maximum Tournament. He then got to destroy Sikorsky in one of the best fights in the series (and ironically the worst-scanned), and - at least in my opinion - did the best against Pickle.

Nobody else was able to make Pickle back off, and a similar argument about Baki's "victory" against Pickle can be used for Jack's fight against Pickle. If Pickle hadn't used a modern technique, Baki would have won. If Pickle hadn't recognized the threat that Jack represented, he would have died from the unconscious finger-smash thing.

Jack's basically the series Worf at this point, but he has the potential to find his place again. He can still grow by using more technology. If he got as jacked as that doctor guy for example, that would be quite something.

Of course this'll probably never happen at this rate, since the author's content pulling random overpowered people out of his ass. Hopefully Musashi's the last.

Terra Formars completely fell apart; I honestly don't believe it's worth reading anymore. I stuck with it until the part where Joseph gets decapitated and his skull is bifurcated and he regenerates, but his siblings have to prevent the halves from regenerating into clones of him. That's just too far beyond the realm of "pseudo-science", even for the genre in which it initially tried to plant itself.

Oyaji, on the other hand, is one of the finest short manga you'll ever read. It's not-at-all pseudo-scientific. Some events in it are *improbable*, but not impossible by any means. It's not a manga *about* the violence, despite its immediate prevalence. It's about a tired old man.

It's not that Musashi's a bad character; he's very well-written. To redeem this arc, all you'd need to do is stop this fucking copy/paste single fighter encounter that everyone is having with Musashi.

Every character says roughly the same things; Musashi reacts in the same ways. The only real breaks in the monotony that we've gotten so far are Jack vs Motobe, and Baki and Doppo chatting about his gains. The fact that the Pickle fight didn't even end and essentially just transitioned into yet another c/p'd encounter dropped the arc's value by like 10-15% in my view.

Also - I'm posting the Korean page because the Japanese scan is shittier: right here? Gaia exclaims that it is literally "impossible" (ari enai) for Musashi to have caught the knife when it was launched at him at 38 MPH from a distance of 15 feet. I'm pretty sure you all see the problem here, yes? I don't need to explain it? Good.

Not sure honestly. He's just so stupidly powerful to the point where no character is given credit.

I didn't love the Pickle arc, but at least the people who fought him grew massively in order to challenge him. Musashi is just taking names left and right without a sweat. To top it off, hes apparently stronger than Pickle without weapons, which is so far beyond absurd that it hurts.

Maybe if his next few fights give the opponents a bit more credit than poor Retsu, and the fight with Baki is super great.

Not sure I agree. Retsu actually died, and Yujiro and Pickle were hype matchups that you couldn't say for sure how they would end. Gaia does feel beyond pointless, though.

I don't see were else can this arc go now other than Baki getting his rematch after Musashi and Motobe finally fight each other, unless they plan to have the whole recurring cast job to those 2 first.
>>
>>142545700
Who's even next to fight?

PEOPLE WHO HAVE DONE THE JOB
>Retsu
>Doppo
>Gaia
>Shibukawa
>Pickle

PEOPLE WHO HAVE INTERACTED WITH MUHSASHI EQUALLY
>Ogre

PEOPLE WHO HAVE JOBBED NOT BUT ARE IN THE TOP ECHELONS
>Memetobe
>Jack
>Che
>Oliva
>Kaku
>Krippletsumi

MID LOW TIER GUYS WHO HAVE NOT DONE THE JOB
>Kosho
>Kureha
>Jyaku
>Dorian

Only the high tier guys are really feasible. Jack was cockblocked from fighting by Memetobe, Motobe is almost definitely going to have a fight with Musashi, Oliva is in prison, Che is on his island, Katsumi is crippled and Kaku doesn't seem like he'd do a fight he knows he can't win

To be honest Mach imagination punches should be legit amazing on anyone that can actually take damage, but somehow I guess Musashi will just intercept it somehow with psycho cuts or whatever he is doing.

Hopefully memetobe is it, then Baki can imagine being a praying mantis or some shit, and we can can get it over with.

The only remote other possibility I see is Scar Pickle fucking Musashis shit up with muh technique, but... Yeah that isn't happening.

Technically Yuujiro won the fight. The match was a draw, but the fight was Yuujiro's.

You'll find this out soon enough, but I'll tell you now anyway: a *warrior's* idea of "the victor" is the one who can first decide whether or not their opponent should live or die. Yuujiro's kick to Musashi's balls was the end of the fight in a sense, but not the end of the match: Yuujiro could easily have just stomped on Musashi while he was rolling around on the ground and killed him. He chose not to do so, because that's not Yuujiro's conception of the winner: he believes that whoever can hold their head higher at the end is the winner. Nonetheless, Motobe and Musashi are warriors. I believe that on some level, Musashi is fervently aware that he lost to Yuujiro.

How is this at all outside the box? It seems pretty typical to me

It's commonish for battle shounen. Like Gaara saving Rock Lee from Kimimaro when Rock Lee was one of the first people to show him it's cool to not be a fag. Retsu was an important person to Pickle and Musashi killed and didn't even eat him

>with earthquake stopping punches
It was immediately retconned by Itagaki. The earthquake may-or-may-not have been stopped by the strike; it may have simply naturally ceased.

The menacing part of Musashi is being intentionally hidden, with occasional hints to the audience. You understand that Musashi is strong - that point is drilled into the reader over and over. But he's played to be jokier than all the other characters - almost like he doesn't care at all - except when he's deadly serious. Itagaki's made it very obvious when Musashi is truly angry: he draws a variation of this exact eye.

I predict that we will see Musashi fully commit to this rage-mode when he's fighting either Baki or Motobe. Most likely, he'll use it as a last resort to win against the latter.

>That doesn't make Gaia not cool/skilled.
I don't like Gaia too much so I won't comment on him being cool or not, but he's not as skilled as you think since his only win was against a weakened Sikorsky of all people, and he's way too reliant on his environment gimmick and not even as skilled as the Meme Master when it comes to weaponry or even basic martial arts.
Then again, he's a nice character to have around, much better than Pickle or Muh Sashi for sure.

>And everyone seems to think that Jack had an easy time fighting Sikorsky

He did?
Sikorsky just got a few small hits in but Jack absolutely destroyed him, it wasn't a one sided slaughter like Jack vs Ali Jr. but he hardly broke a sweat against Sikorsky, and again, Sikorsky was the unluckiest convict by far in terms of matchups, if he fought Jack first he would have probably put up a better fight.
>>
>>142549628
Gaia was introduced as an interesting character, I really like his concept and theme, but after a 13 year old baki defeated him, he kind of lost any respect he could create.

It would have been better if gaia had stopped at some point recognizing baki skill for being 13 year old but that he wasn't willing to kill hi yet as he had still time and space to grow more or some shit.

I don't know how will he redeem himself after 1) being memetobe's student (let's remember that he was "a rival to the ogre") and 2) getting wrecked by Musashi.

The problem is none of them can come back besides, ironically, Sikorsky.

Yanagi and Speck straight up died, Dorian is retarded, Doyle either died after Oliva hugged him up good or he's incapacitate for life, that leaves us with a severely traumatized Sikorsky.

That's the thing; his title was intentionally misleading (to the reader). He was the second best *at warfare*. Not the second strongest fighter. None of the guys like Oliva, Che, Kaku, etc have any real military training or tactical knowledge that Gaia does.

I just think that he has to have some sort of power boost if Motobe had one. If old Motobe could teach a student to become Childhood Arc Gaia-tier, new Motobe should have Gaia at a respectively powerful level yet, so far, we haven't seen anything new or unpredictable.

That's why in the theatre of my mind, Sikorsky comes back and fights Musashi: they both have super-strong, indestructible fingers that they use to cut people. I think it'd be very-much in Baki form to see earth-splitting hand-swords clashing against other hand-swords.

Plus, I think Sikorsky would have been the most brvtal convict had he not gotten the most unfair match-ups. The scene in my pic here always revives my love for the guy; he really represented what the convicts were supposed to be at first imo. Just evil, 'lawless' strong guys who'll crush your skull with a barbell without a second thought.

I'll give you Speck, but I don't agree with Dorian being above Sikorsky. Dorian was all weapons, tricks and lights without any real intelligence or super physical strength to back it up. He essentially openly admitted that he would have died had the Shinshinkai army just decided to kill him instead of fighting him "honorably" and walked away, whereas Speck or Sikorsky might have just pull out a gun and start shooting the guys.
