Kumiko's job is to run around playing detective trying to figure out why Asuka doesn't want Nozomi to come back and why Mizore has a panic attack whenever Nozomi is around. She gets the information from Yuuko and Natsuki who are much more relevant in the 2nd volume
Reina spends the entire volume dealing with Taki sensei and the new female adviser whom she thinks is Taki sensei's girlfriend.

For me it's her character design, personality and voice. So basically everything about her.
Her personality is actually interesting. She's reasonably cynical and yet at times very kind. Whenever she does perform an act of kindness or is happy or actually smiles it feels truly genuine due to their rarity and her overall pessimism. Also I really love just how uncomplicated and straightforward she is most of the time. If there is shit that needs to be said you can count on Kumiko to actually say it, even if at times unintentionally.
