Actually just your whole post in general, it's a 100% accurate summary of the dynamic. It's not even speculation, that's pretty much all canon.
The "understand" part was interesting though, because it reminded me of an exchange in the RPG MMO Hesokuri Wars arc where Karamatsu says something and Ichimatsu "translates" what he said to the other brothers, who are like, "How do you understand him, Ichi?"

Love it. Pointless analysis:
Osomatsu's is as lazy as him, it's cramped and slanted with the least amount of effort possible. Looks like a normal pen but of course thickened for visibility on the merch folder.
Karamatsu's is ridiculous, proper calligraphy brush with huge but nice strokes. Fancy fuck.
Choromatsu's looks like it was done with a flat-tip marker, it's very clear without a ton of flair other than the natural angular detail and that comes from a flat-tip.
Ichimatsu's is like he's trying too hard, it's a ballpoint pen but drawn over and over to thicken each stroke and make it look rough on purpose. His letters aren't terrible but they are a bit harsh and stylized.
Jyushimatsu's is my favourite, completely suits him. Reminds me a bit of Korean with how rounded each stroke is, the radicals are totally malformed into cramped centers with long in and outs.
Totomatsu's is pretty similar to Osomatsu's but with a felt-tip, the characters are also significantly rounder (the 兄 is almost a circle). Trying to be cute.

It did take me a while to like him and it wasn't until I rewatched the older episodes that he became my favorite along with Totty, so I feel you on that. But I just really love him for some reason.

I really like oso too, which is funny how most people didn't care of him at the beginning and i'm at fault of it too. Nowadays he's pretty liked.
