Not necessarily true given the characters' personalities. Freyja is very happy-go-lucky, Mirage is generally pretty stoic and professional, and Hayate just likes messing with both of them. Given that none of them are mopey like Ranka, aggressive like Sheryl, or emotionally frivolous like Minmay, Kawamori could plausibly avoid having too many angsty moments in the same way that 7 did.

I thought 7's and Zero's triangles were pretty feel good. There was barely any drama. Both Gamlin and Mao handled it quite well.
Going back to Frontier, the triangle in the movies was also less melodramatic than the one in the series. Ranka handled it also pretty well there. No hard feelings between the characters and you could tell how much the three of them meant to each other.

If we think about this, then we can observe that 1, Windermere was colonized early, so would have lived through the period when 新統合政府 was at it's corruption peak. But, they also would have been part of the time where the decentralization came through. Either this wasn't enough, or Windermere were just thuroughly tired of the Earthlings at this point (Though, what exactly had earth demanded of them exactly?
